Classic Overdrive with a Custom Voice Mod

The Waza Craft line BOSS SD-1W Super Overdrive hot rods this classic booster pedal without losing its timeless character. For starters, the mater pedal makers at BOSS reengineered the original SD-1's discrete, all-analog circuitry, using premium components and a redesigned topology to clean up the overall sound. So even when you're running it in Standard mode, the SD-1W delivers the classic smooth and articulate overdrive sound that made the SD-1 legend, but with less noise and greater articulation than ever. Flip it over to Custom mode, and you get treated to super-fat bass and an extra helping of gain. Both of the SD-1W's modes are nothing short of astonishing.

Waza Craft: a higher art of stompbox design

The Japanese word "waza" means art and technique, an appropriate name for BOSS's premium line of redesigned guitar effects pedals. You see, the pedal collectors here at Sweetwater have seen more than enough special-edition stompboxes that are only a paint job away from the originals, which is why we're so blown away by what BOSS has done with the Waza Craft series. Even in their Standard modes, Waza Craft pedals sound like idealized versions of the originals, offering the same sonic character that made them iconic, but with less noise and more consistent tone. And when you A/B the Standard mode and the Custom mod, the contrast is nothing short of astonishing.

BOSS Waza Craft SD-1W Super Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal Features:
  • A special edition of the classic SD-1 Super Overdrive pedal with a switchable custom voice
  • Redesigned, discrete all-analog circuitry provides classic SD-1 character with added clarity
  • Mini toggle lets you switch back and forth between standard SD-1 sound and a custom voice
  • Custom mode offers a healthy bass boost and extra gain to fill out your tone for solos
  • Both modes remain highly responsive to volume and picking dynamics

Must have over-drive pedal

Quiet! Great roll-off, Sounds like the one I had in the early 80's, love the low-end gain boost in the custom setting. It doesn't effect my tone when it's off. Crank everything up and roll the volume down on the guitar for some really nice clean tones. Put this pedal in front of a JCM 800 for a real shredders experience! I love this pedal! It's a must have...

Boss Super OverDrive WAZA Craft

Very good over drive pedal.

Great mod

Boss has modified the pedal without completely changing the characteristics or voicing of the pedal. Great tones on both switches sometimes hard to decide which tone to use.

Worth the price!

I just got my SD-1W the other day. I had shopped around a lot for an overdrive pedal that would add gain and sustain without adding fizz and piercing highs. I have watched tons of videos, read tons of reviews, etc. I was really looking at the OCD pedal but I saw this and it sounded great on the youtube video so I figured I would give it a shot. I am so glad that I did! The pedal is extremely well constructed, tough as nails. The switch is smooth and effortless, the knobs turn with just the right amount of resistance, the jacks plug in and out very smoothly. The sound of the pedal is just unbelievable, it has that punch, that saturation, THE sound! In S mode it is a standard SD-1, it sounds really good but has sort of a thin feel to it. When you flip to C that's when the magic happens, more gain comes flowing in and the sound fills out into this thick evil thing, it's really awesome!Having the standard mode available is a really great feature, it allows you 2 different voicings to choose from, though I never use S mode, it's nice to know it's there. The C mode is everything you think and more, it is on par with the best modded pedals out there. Being able to compare it to a stock circuit in the same pedal really shows you what a great job BOSS did on this pedal. If you need a good overdrive to push your clean amp or plexi into high gain territory, or if you need to just fatten the sound of your high gain amp this pedal is absolutely perfect. I highly recommend it.

Boss SD-1W Super Overdrive

Comparing models against each other, (the Boss Super Overdrive SD-1 and the Boss Super Overdrive SD-1W), the SD-1W has two advantages. One is that the circuitry of the SD-1W is quieter. The SD-1 produces a slight background noise. Secondly, the SD-1W has a 'booster switch' (C - for "Custom" setting) that with it's clean electronics produces a high amount of gain. For me, I just set the SD-1W to the S - for "Standard" setting with the quieter circuitry. I use both Boss Super Drives on my pedalboard for different effects because of the differences in circuitry.
