Bass players have sought the legendary Ampeg tone for decades, and now you can tap into it in a convenient preamp pedal with the Ampeg SCR-DI. Plug in your electric bass guitar, use the Ampeg EQ, tone controls, and Scrambler Overdrive to conjure your ideal bass sound, then send it direct to the PA system with the balanced XLR output - a dead simple way to achieve monumental bass. You can also send a split of the signal, affected or unaffected, to your bass amp too if you choose. Create iconic Ampeg bass amp tones

Ampeg has employed their legacy preamp and tone stack circuits to give the SCR-DI the famous punch and power that Ampeg is known for. There's a wide range of tone to tap into, from the smooth character of Ampeg's Portaflex cabinets to the harmonically-rich SVT sound. No matter what style of music you play, there are some sweet tones to be discovered with the SCR-DI.

Bass Scrambler Overdrive puts some hair on your sound

When you need bass tone with aggression, kick on the Bass Scrambler Overdrive on the Ampeg SCR-DI. Drive and Blend controls let you dial in just the right amount of effect, from subtle harmonic enhancement to full-on grunge.

Smart connectivity for stage and studio

Ampeg knows you need flexible options when you're playing in different venues and studios. That's why they packed the SCR-DI with a balanced XLR line out, an affected 1/4" output, and an unaffected 1/4" output. The XLR is the perfect choice for going direct to a PA or recording device, while the 1/4" connections are ideal for connecting to a traditional bass amp too.

Ampeg cheater pedal

Extremely happy with this component. It lets a poor boy get real close to that Ampeg sound. Built ruggedly and lets you dial in a lot of tones. A little noisy on the treble circuits but when looped with noise gate it's all good. Love to bring it downstairs and plug in the headphones and run it off the battery. Same sweet sounds. Would recommend it to everyone.

Big Ampeg Tone

If you want a Ampeg SVT Tube Amp sound without the hassle, then this Ampeg in a box is for you. I pair this with my Fender P bass and it is mind blowing the tone that is coming out of this box. Real tubey and ultra hi and ultra lo rounds out the tone. My set up for this gig was my p bass, amp box, straight to the pa/house. It sounded like i had a 8x10 cab and a SVT tube amp. Amazing! Bye Sansamp! Talk to Matt Alexander and her will give you the run down.
Music background: Rock, nu metal, industrial, worship

Outstanding Pedal

I love the growl my Jazz bass makes with this pedal, however, one problem is it will burn a 9V battery out in less than 3 hours. I returned the first one I bought only to have the same problem with the second. Use it with a power adapter and follow hook-up instructions and your Sans-Amp Bass Di is going to get mighty lonely.
Music background: Semi-Pro since 1964

SVT In A Box

AMPEG SCR- DI / Pre-Amp is SVT Tone in your gig bag. I am a TC Electronics RH lover, and have played through 4x10, 2x12 for 5 years - great tones - great shows. This past year joined a group that had an in house AMPEG 8x10 and all tube SVT-VR Head - Gentlemen once you get that tone in your head - it haunts you, that natural overdrive, the growl, the rich harmonic textures, and sizzling highs - everything you love about playing bass. I was blown away! Now back to my TC - its a great amp, but not a SVT. Enter the Ampeg SCR-DI this pedal played through a clean amp like TC and you have a very close approximation of that SVT tone. One night I used it alone direct to the house, and those JBL monitors never sounded rich with bass, I was very pleased with my tone - despite not having my TC Rig. If you are looking to add that SVT tone without 190 lbs of cabinet and amp, buy with confidence. Okay, you AMPEG PURIST - its absolutely NOT the same as a SVT-VR (only SVT-VR sounds like an SVT-VR) As far as functionality the EQ, bass boost, and Ultra Hi function operate just like the SVT with very usable tones. If you are playing though a Tube Bass Amp, you can use the thru to send your bass signal to the amp, an XLR to the house. If you are playing through a digital amp - you'll want to use the line-out and take advantage of that tone generator. The DI comes from the factory with the jumper set to -15 db (best for active basses). Note: the rubber feet are the screws to the back plate. The unit will require fresh batteries for every session - recommend using a 9 volt power adapter. Confirming: "Ampeg knows Bass!"

worth the money

Tone is awesome. Passive Peavey Patriot bass took on a whole new sound. One of the best purchases in years. Gives the ampeg sound through a fender rumble. I t an awesome practice amp. Waited years for a design like this. This aux level helps balance sound better than just using the mp3player adjustments.
Music background: 32 years jazz, rock, hvy metal

Sweetwater Advice

Ampeg SCR-DI

For the price of a couple of Benjamins, the SCR-DI is a no-brainer for bassists looking to add a DI to their stage and studio rigs. Its construction feels bulletproof, its preamp and EQ have a supremely wide breadth, and its overdrive circuit can cover much more ground than many standalone alternatives....
