Studio One ARTIST is a game changer

I have been working in the recording/live sound business since graduating from Full Sail in 1986. Digital was just getting momentum and I learned the craft on analog 2" tape and an SSL console. I am a big fan of where the recording arts have gone, concerning the DAW platform. I started my home studio with SONY Acid back in 2004, and eventually wound up with Protools, SONAR, and Reaper in my workflow. I even used a basic version of ACID,too. I had great fun using all 4 as a recording engineer AND as a recording artist. All that changed when I purchased a PreSonus USB recording interface and a free copy of ARTIST was included. It was months before I had a day off and had a chance to load my copy into a laptop I use for remote/live recording. I soon became a major fan of all things PreSonus. I quickly mastered the basic ARTIST DAW and promptly purchased the VST/UA add-on. Amazing amount of stock tools to begin with, but I started using Studio One exclusively as soon as I was able to activate my library of VST plug-ins. I use an Audient ID14 and a Presonus DP8 as my front end, and it is an amazing set-up. Not an SSL, but it is a work-horse set up. I fully recommend starting with ARTIST as a 1st DAW, it covers a lot of bases for the $. Plus, PreSonus has provided many hardware options that sync perfectly with Studio One, from 2 in/2 out USB interfaces on up to professional studio-grade digital mixers. And Studio One makes the journey from start to finish. Amazing DAW, try it!

Studio One 3

The Studio One software works great even with my limited knowledge. I experienced a few problems when installing the software but the Tech. guys at Sweetwater helped me right along so all is good now. I have found literally hundreds of videos on how to use Studio One so there is plenty of information to get a person started. I have already recorded 4 guitar tracks with Fx and I look forward to what I will be able to do once I am more familiar with the software. Pretty amazing what an inexperienced person can do just on their own. Again... Thanks to all the Sweetwater staff for their help on what to purchase and how to get it working.

Powerful Application

I'd previously been using Studio One "Prime" (and whatever they called the Free version before that) for light production work, but found that I wanted to incorporate mixing tools that were not available in that version. (Specifically, there is no Mix Bus in Prime/Free). While it was a simple tool, the upgrade invigorated me to dig more deeply into Studio One as a working environment. It continues to impress me - providing an amazing array of high level tools through an interface that you can customize and keep "clean". Exceptional detail and logical layout (though working through the tutorial videos online provides an exceptional reference for learning. It's always tough to switch or add a DAW to your workflow and creative environment, but this is well worth and short-term learning curve.
