Harness the Power of Dante and Pro Tools | HD

Focusrite's Red 16Line is a 64 x 64 Pro Tools | HD and dual Thunderbolt 3 audio interface with high-performance digital conversion and ultra-low round-trip latency, a pair of pristine Red Evolution mic preamps, up to 121dB of dynamic range, and networked audio expansion over Dante. Because the Red 16Line supplies both DigiLink and Thunderbolt connections, it's quite easy to switch between Pro Tools | HD and another DAW, without having to reconfigure option cards in the interface — just change the host mode either in the remote control software or on the chassis front panel.

Top-shelf audio performance, impressive flexibility

In addition to DigiLink and Thunderbolt ports, the rear panel hosts 16 analog inputs and outputs via DB-25 connectors, two mic inputs on XLRs, a pair of TRS monitor outs, S/PDIF coaxial I/O, 16 channels of ADAT optical, Word Clock and Loop Sync I/O, and a pair of Ethernet Dante network ports. Unsurprisingly, there are many hardcore Pro Tools | HD users here at Sweetwater; we are thrilled by the power and flexibility the Focusrite Red 16Line delivers.

The Foundation of my Home Studio

I originally built my home studio around second-hand mixer and a Scarlett series 2i2, which made even basic recording and bussing from my DAW a chore. I finally had the money to invest into a proper setup, and I truly can't quantify how much it improved my music making ability. The time recovered from messing about with cable routing constantly made the upgrade worth it, even before considering the fantastic jump in quality. Tearing out all my patches, mixer connections and sends and watching it all plug into the DB25 ports was a sight to behold.

The workflow of this unit, driven by the RedNet application makes essentially every bussing, routing and live mixing decision a click or two away. Despite some small hiccups with the RedNet program originally, (which their tech support was able to address via an update), this unit very successfully fades into the background and lets you focus on the instruments in the room rather than your setup.

Signal clarity is immaculate, and the same goes for the headphone amps. The headroom goes for miles compared to my original mixing solution. The only minor complaint is the high-z inputs in the front panel will whine if the gain is left on without an instrument plugged into them, but turning the knob back to 0 fixes this quickly.

Looking forward to add more to my Rednet/Dante environment down the line and making my cramped studio even more so.

Great Unit with Performance and Features That Are Perfect for Me

I love this unit. Focusrite nailed the feature set for the project studio market with several great mic pres included. The converters are fantastic and my imaging got HUGE after switching from my antiquated "other brand" interface. Focusrite is known for nailing usability too and the buttons and parameters on the front panel are well thought out to check monitoring or adjust volume on these high quality headphone amps.

Everything sounds great. I just installed a patch bay and am going "outside the box" for some compression and EQ and with this unit it still sounds great. As we know expandability is just an ethernet cable away using Dante and another unit. I can use the two channel Dante unit for portable recording to a laptop, then bring it home and plug in for two more great mic pres. Great unit. It's worth the price.

Excellent!

This interface has the quality build and sonic performance you'd expect from top shelf converters. The two preamps offer impressive colorful options. This is the perfect interface for those of us that use outboard summing mixers. Also ideal in situations where you have many different types of channel strips / preamps not connected to a console. The headphone amp is rather nice - even nicer than I expected.
Music background: Producer / Engineer / Session Musician

If you're like a lot of the recording engineers here at Sweetwater, then you probably grew up with stories of the legendary Focusrite Forte console and its ISA preamps. Our relationship with Focusrite is extremely tight, and we regularly enjoy everything from the inside scoop on new gear to fish and chips when they stop by Sweetwater. While Focusrite still produces the classic analog preamps, EQs, and compressors we love, our Sales Engineers are just as excited to introduce our customers to their remarkable RedNet network audio platform, and we have worked with Focusrite to outfit studios, churches, venues, and schools with this awesome technology in action. From everyday audio interfaces to full system designs, if you want Focusrite gear, Sweetwater has you covered.
