The Most Powerful BOSS Reverb Pedal Yet

The power and versatility of BOSS's 500 Series digital effects pedals come to reverb in the RV-500 multi-effects pedal. Loaded to the brim with gorgeous-sounding reverb effects, the 12 onboard reverb types mean tonal adventurers will never run out of inspiration. And editing these sounds can be a straightforward affair or take tone tweakers down a deep well of options and sonic perfection. BOSS has a long legacy of lauded reverb effects, such as their RV-5's legendary Modulate mode and their COSM modeling of famed Fender spring reverb tones. The RV-500 is like your own personal library of all of these sounds in a single stompbox.

12 inspiring reverb effects

Reverb is an absolute necessity on most electric guitar players' pedalboards these days. From covering ambient passages to the drippy tones only achieved through a spring-like setting, you're guaranteed to be called upon to wrangle these sounds. This makes the RV-500 an ideal partner for stage, studio, and home use. You'll find everything from warm-sounding room reverbs for a bit of extra ambience to highly effected SFX and shimmer sounds, all being processed through the pedal's astounding 32-bit/96kHz.

Deep options, simple workflow

Even with a world of tonal shaping onboard, the BOSS RV-500 reverb pedal is equally suited for control freaks and the plug-and-play types of the world. The pedal's intuitive layout of top-mounted controls allows you to fine-tune your sound's tone, level, pre-delay, and more. You're even able to save your custom presets with a few pushes of a button. But when it's time to go deeper, you'll find the bright display and vast menus urge you to conjure every tone you can dream up.

Thoughtful user interface

Once they got it in their hands, Sweetwater musicians — even keys, synth, and bass players since it works equally well on them all — were thrilled to see a versatile set of inputs and outputs. True stereo performance will split your tones to two separate amplifiers, creating a sonic space that simply has to be experienced to be believed. With its ability to be switched from true-bypass to buffered operation, there isn't anywhere in your signal chain that the RV-500 can't handle. And you have up to 297 preset locations for all your sonic creations.

Reviews

Amazing! And so glad I purchased instead of Big Sky
It came down to the Big Sky and this for my 18" direct-in compact board. After only a couple hours of using it I have no regrets and confident I made right choice. The RV-500 provides amazing features like the addition of delay with every patch and the ability to run 2 patches at once. After owning the ES-8 and MS-3, I quickly figured out the programming pattern and able to write some amazing sounding patches. I have concluded that the negative reviews are primarily from people not patient enough to learn the unit, unlocking it's potential. Bottom line, you get amazing reverb AND delay in one unit for significantly less than the Big $ky.

Everything Reverb
Title says it all. This pedal does everything reverb. I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface. Mostly still jumping around and comparing all of the presets, listening to everything in stereo. I use an IR-200 with this RV-500 pedal into a Focusrite 2i2 through big JBL monitors speakers, and it all sounds incredible. The SFX, Non-linear, and Space echo reverbs are still new to me, but just from the presets I am amazed. Out of the box you get really great sounding reverbs, and then endless exploration with the setting and patameters on each reverb type.
Incredibly powerful delay system
I've used a Boss GT1000 for about five years now and it's am incredible rig. However, I wanted more reverb switching options which unfortunately is one of the only limitations of the GTK so I picked up the RV500.

For about the first year of owning it I only scratched the surface as to what this pedal is capable of, simply because I never really had the time to sit and dig deeper. Once I did, I realized how powerful it is.

The reverb algorithms are so deep and have such a high degree of fidelity. I've compared some of the settings with the Big Sky (which I also have and love) and this pedal surpasses it. There's so much depth and so many parameter options that you can really build any type of reverb tone you want. I'm able to create massive soundscapes with the RV500. I use it in stereo within the effects loops of my GT1000.

One thing that I believe goes unnoticed is that the RV500 is also a very capable delay pedal. You can create patches that contain both reverb and delay (or one of the two) to the point where you can have this pedal and a good drive as a simple rig.

If you're in the market and are willing to do a bit of learning, the RV500 will serve you very well.

Amazing Space Echo
I bought this unit primarily for the Space Echo mode. Having owned two RE-501 units in the distant past, I needed something that faithfully reproduced that sound. I did my research, and downloaded the manuals beforehand, and found the options I was looking for. While some complain that it sounds thin, I would remind people that the RE-501 could sound thin as well, depending on how the treble and bass settings are used.

Luckily, the effect has controls that account for this. In addition, there are also modulation depth and rate controls that introduce a chorus-like effect, similar to that of the RE-501. You'll want to leave the rate at about 20% and a depth of no more than 50%. The RE-501 had a fixed rate. The Space Echo mode also has a built-in 3-spring reverb type, which I recommend leaving at around 50% as well.

The reason I got this over the DD-500 is due to needing it for several other reverb applications as well. I plan on purchasing both the DD-500 and MD-500 as well quite soon. In the meantime, this little unit did everything I needed. I highly recommend the PC-based editor as well, as it lays out the options neatly, and so that there is no need to scroll through the settings.

It's Got It All
I did my research and even both a few pedals thinking I would "settle" for less and make it work. I even
tried an Oceans12 but that didn't fill the need. Boy am I glad I went with the RV-500. I knew the 1st 5
minutes that I made the right choice. It has all the essential presets and then some. Hours of exploration
and if you find that unique sound you've been looking for you can save it for future use. And so happy with
Sweetwater and Jeff Barnett is the best. He understands the quirks of an aging musician.
