The Acoustic Workhorse

Known as "The Workhorse, Gibson's J-45 Standard acoustic-electric is one of the best-known acoustics in the music world. This round-shoulder, dreadnought acoustic guitar gives your music full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection. The J-45 Standard features all that rich tone, thanks to its AA-grade Sitka spruce top and a solid mahogany body. And, for unbelievable onstage tone, there's an LR Baggs VTC pickup system installed on the Gibson J-45 Standard. Get yours today.

"The Workhorse" features choice tonewoods for incredible tone

Known as "The Workhorse," the Gibson J-45 body style is among Gibson's most beloved. This particular workhorse features a superb blend of tonewoods, giving you rich, strong sound — day-in, day-out. The J-45 Standard features a AA-grade Sitka spruce top for presence, while pattern-grade Honduras mahogany adorns its back and sides. Other touches include hand-scalloped, radiused top bracing, a tapered dovetail neck joint, and a single-ring rosette with three-ply binding.

Rosewood Fingerboard with Rolled Edges and Dot Inlays

The Gibson J-45 Standard's fingerboard comprises high-grade rosewood, which is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson experts before it enters the Gibson factories. It's a resilient and durable wood, making way for a balanced and stable fingerboard, and giving each chord and note enhanced clarity and bite. The dot inlays on the J-45 are made of genuine mother-of-pearl and are added to the fingerboard using a special Gibson process that eliminates gaps and doesn't require fillers. What's more, the J-45 Standard's fingerboard boasts a rolled edge that's lightly beveled, which enhances the instrument's smooth playability.

Get amazing sound onstage courtesy of LR Baggs VTC electronics

The Gibson Acoustic J-45 comes with LR Baggs's popular VTC acoustic pickup system, a popular choice among Sweetwater's acoustic guitarists. This system features a low-profile under-saddle transducer that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar and improves the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. Combined with an onboard preamplifier with an unobtrusive and removable volume control, mounted just inside the soundhole, the VTC gives your Gibson Acoustic J-45 the amplification you need, with zero compromises for tone or convenience.

Gibson J-45 Standard Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • The classic acoustic workhorse
  • Solid Sitka spruce top offers great projection and tone
  • Solid mahogany back and sides offer warm, round sound
  • LR Baggs VTC electronics transfer every nuance of your tone to your PA or amp

J-45 Sunburst

I played one of these back in the late 60's and have dreamed of getting another one for many years. I played one at Sweetwater and it just felt like home. I don't know if I was dreaming that it felt like the one I had used 40+ years ago, but it sure seemed like it. I hope to buy one again someday, once bills are caught up!

J-45 Standard

This is a GREAT guitar. It is very comfortable to play. This Gibson J-45 is really a great guitar to have in your arsenal of instruments. I also own Martins, and other Gibson acoustics. This J-45 is becoming one of my favorite guitars to play. It's sound is very distinct to this guitar. Well known for the deeper bass, this guitar also has a treble side that really is clear and loud also. Very easy to play whether it's Country, Blues, Rock, Bluegrass, this guitar will fit the bill. It also has the LR Baggs VTC system already installed, affording you the opportunity to plug into your favorite amp. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone wanting a legendary guitar with the history to back it up.

Dream Guitar

I have wanted a J-45 for over 30 years. I have played others J-45's but never got around to buying my own to now. What a beautiful guitar. Great sounding and amazing fit and finish. I love the vintage sunburst finish. Nice comfortable neck with no rough edges or frets. Craftsmanship at its finest. The sound is just amazing. It was well worth the wait.

great guitar

i hope it is ok to leave this review here....... i bought a used gibson j45 recently, sight unseen and i had not played it. i was very nervous about this but i wanted one. so i pulled the trigger and bought this model guitar. excellent guitar and sounds great (mine is very warm)and comfortable to play. i can see why they have remained so popular. if something were to happen to this guitar, i would run right out and buy another. i have two martins, a taylor and a takamine and this is equal or better. great guitar.....thanks gibson.

Absolutely in love

I have waited over 20+ years to bite the bullet and buy this guitar. I wish I had done it years ago. Straight out of the box it was perfect. I can't say enough about this awesome guitar. Plays as great as it looks and the L.R. Baggs system is a perfect match. It doesn't get much better than the J-45. Do yourself a favor and get yours won't be disappointed.
