Powerful Pro Performance Synth From Sequential

The Sequential Pro 3 is a hybrid multi-filter synthesizer with a premium Fatar 37-note semi-weighted keyboard, three oscillators (two VCOs and one wavetable), and three classic analog filters (Prophet-6, OB-6, and ladder), along with a powerful new 16-track sequencer, and the ability to connect with modular synths through its four control voltage ins and outs. The Pro 3 rocks not one, not two, but three classic filter types. Additional features include three LFOs, four envelopes, an arpeggiator, a white Noise generator, hard Sync, per-oscillator Glide, Oscillator Slop, dual digital Effects, and more. The Pro 3 even has a 3-voice paraphonic mode with individually-gated envelopes per oscillator — which means you can play triads on a monosynth! A 32-slot mod matrix and dual digital effects engines plus tuned feedback and analog distortion make the Sequential Pro 3 a little beast capable of producing almost any sound you can imagine.

The Pro 3 SE (Special Edition) packs all the awesome power of the Pro 3 into a stunning, collector-worthy design that features a tilt-up control panel and premium walnut trim.

3 powerful Oscillators

The magic starts with three oscillators — two analog VCOs and one digital wavetable. The analog oscillators generate three classic wave shapes, triangle, saw, and pulse; each with variable shape modulation/pulse width. The DSP-based digital oscillator produces 32 wavetables of 16 waves each with wave morphing, plus classic sine, triangle, saw, variable-width pulse, and super saw wave shapes. Additionally, digital oscillator 3 can function as an LFO for complex wavetable-based modulation. A fourth sound source — a white noise generator — is accessible via the Mixer section for adding variable grit to any patch.

3 classic analog Filters

The Sequential Pro 3 is a uniquely capable synth, but what really sets it apart are its three classic analog filters. Comprising best-of-the-best VCF topologies from a half-century of analog synthesis, the Pro 3’s filter section includes a 4-pole, 24dB/octave lowpass filter from the Prophet-6; a classic 4-pole, 24dB/octave, transistor ladder filter with variable resonance; and a 2-pole, 12db/octave state-variable OB-6 filter that can be varied continuously between lowpass, notch, and highpass operation, with an optional bandpass mode.

LFOs, Envelopes, Feedback, and Distortion

Onboard the Pro 3 are three syncable LFOs, each with five waveshapes (triangle, saw, reverse saw, square, and S&H), plus phase offset and slew rate. There are four ADSR Envelopes (VCA, Filter, and two Auxiliary). The Envelopes are freely assignable to multiple modulation destinations and they can repeat/loop. When you need sonic hyper-aggression, reach for the Tuned Feedback generator with Grunge. To unleash tonal destruction, crank up the Pro 3’s programmable analog distortion. If you’re in a band, your lead guitarist will have new-found respect for you as you trade searing lead lines and bone-crunching power chords.

The Mod Matrix

Whatever sound you can dream up, you can realize with the Sequential Pro 3. The Modulation matrix adds sophisticated modular synthesis capabilities to the real-time, hands-on immediacy of this powerful performance synth. The Pro 3’s 32-slot mod matrix has over 46 modulation sources and more than 171 destinations. Modulation assignment buttons enable quick and easy modulation routing, while an Amount encoder lets you dial in the ideal blend. So, bend it, twist it, mangle it beyond recognition. That’s the sound of inevitability.

CV I/O and Gate Out

The Pro 3 is equipped with four control voltage (CV) inputs and outputs for interfacing with modular synths and other CV-compatible devices. Parameters that can be sent to CV outputs include oscillators, LFOs, envelopes, sequencer tracks, or any other source within the Modulation matrix. Sequential has also spec’d the Pro 3 with a Gate Out for triggering external CV-compatible devices. Any CV input can be used as a gate input.

Advanced 16-track Sequencer

An advanced Sequencer brings state-of-the-art workstation compositional and sound design prowess to the Pro 3. The Sequencer has three modes: normal, gated, and trigger. With 16 tracks and 4 linkable16-step phrases, the Sequencer features per-step ratcheting, duration, and velocity; as well as forward, reverse, forward/reverse, and random playback modes. It supports real-time and step input, rests, and variable-length sequences, and it syncs to MIDI clock or external audio, as well as CV input. Sequences are freely assignable to any modulation destination.

Sophisticated Arpeggiator

The Pro 3 also features a sophisticated arpeggiator with up, down, up+down, random, and assign modes. It syncs to MIDI clock and external audio and CV inputs and has re-latching capability. It can run simultaneously with the Sequencer to generate arpeggiated patterns with parameter automation.

Amazing pro value

Sequential packed a lot of synthy goodness into the Pro 3. Festooned with over 60 knobs and 70 buttons that enable deep editing with minimal menu diving, the Pro 3 is equally at home onstage and in the studio. It offers 512 factory and 512 user presets plus immediate, real-time controls that let you nail your sounds fast during a live performance, and yet offers comprehensive sound-sculpting capabilities that serious sound designers and composers require. Onstage, you’ll appreciate the Playlist mode that generates set lists of your favorite presets. Ditto the smooth, precise response of the Pro 3’s backlit Pitch and Mod wheels that are easily visible in low-light situations. Another feature we really love is that the Pitch wheel’s upper and lower pitch range are independently adjustable. Also on the left cheek is a latchable, position-sensitive touch slider for enhanced interactivity and control. Topped off with generous professional connectivity, the Sequential Pro 3 is an amazing value. If you’re a serious synthesist, you probably need one.

Designed by a synth legend

Dave Smith was the design engineer and driving force behind the original Sequential Circuits, whose first product was the legendary Prophet 5 in 1977 — the first polyphonic synthesizer capable of storing the value of every parameter within its voicing and control systems. This was a watershed technological breakthrough, and the implications were staggering. Think about this: before the Prophet 5, it simply wasn’t possible to enter a patch number into a synth and recall sounds you had stored. The Prophet 5 and its successors were hugely successful, finding their way into every top studio and major act’s keyboard rig, and onto countless recordings by artists as diverse as Madonna and Weather Report! But Dave Smith’s impressive track record would not be complete without a mention of the major role he played in the development of MIDI. Today, Sequential is back in a big way with cutting-edge synthesizers that incorporate the very best of vintage and modern technologies. Sweetwater is proud to offer to you such a fine line of distinguished musical instruments.

Best synth for patch design

I got a demo model, and had to swap the main board covered by warranty. It was a sound quality issue, but fixed and working perfect now. Both Sweetwater and Sequential gave me several options and quickly, so AAA support. Probablt the most intuitive mod matrix, gives me unklimited design potential. It's a mono/paraphony synth so great for bass and lead. If you wants pads and chords, look elsewhere. It's para mode is nice, but sounds rather thin playing chords, but to be expected.

It’s stunning. A synth tour de force.

The Pro 3 SE is beautifully built, crazy powerful and sounds amazing.

It lives in my studio alongside a Moog Subsequent 37 and Moog Matriarch. All Sweetwater supplied.

I'm in monosynth heaven. While I love the character of my Moogs, if I could have only one synth, it would be this as it does not sacrifice character for versatility.

It's a tour de force of the synth world.

Check out my videos for a taste of the amazing bass sounds and, surprisingly for some, incredible, unexpected pads (in this case enhanced with. Strymon big sky).

Thanks, as always to Nick Famer at Sweetwater who supplies most of my equipment.

Intuitive, and insanely fun!

This is my first Sequential synth, and man have I been missing out. This thing is an absolute beast, and the best synth I've ever purchased.

I have a lot of gear, like an octatrack, that require a lot of time to get going, not this though. This synth is so user friendly you can site down and just figure out almost anything you want to do simply. I absolutely love how easy it is to do what I want with it, it just makes sense. The first day with this is the most fun I've had with any new instrument I have ever purchased. I want to sell a bunch of my older synths, and gadgets to get another from their line.

It sounds so powerful, its great having 3 filters to choose from, the sequencer, and arp are really impressive, and the onboard effects are incredible. I love the analog distortion, and tuned feedback. I'm a big Nine Inch Nails fan, and this can get some of those nastier, industrial sounds without even having to run it through external effects. And the special edition is gorgeous, and the flip panel makes makes it really easy to tweak knobs. Its body is all metal, with real wood sides, it's a lot heavier than the standard, but it seems like a tank. This is the type of instrument that is worth collecting and holding onto for many years, getting the SE was the right choice.

If you're looking for a mono/paraphonic synth then I dont see how you wouldn't end up loving this synth too.

Plays well with others.

I love my pro 3!!! I've been synthing since 1985 with my first synth, Korg DW8000.
This is one of my all time favorite machines, You can basically Fall on the front panel and make great sounds.
So many happy accidents. I lean on it a lot. I've trimmed my kit list down to my Korg prologue 16, Waldorf Iridium, Waldorf pulse 2, and sequential pro 3.
The Pro 3 is so forgiving. Twist a knob and you'll find a very very wide sweet spot. It can get pretty "out there". Not like the Iridium of course but I love sampling the pro 3 in Iridium and it always gives me unique otherworldly results that would fit perfectly in the Netflix series Dark.
Do not ignore this machine. I've had zero regrets!
Fun fun fun.
The only negative I'd give it is that it can burn up HOURS programming it. And that's not bad

Best Mono Synth Available Today

If you're in need of a versatile mono synth, look no further. Dave and the gang hit this one out of the park and I absolutely believe this is one of the best mono synths I've ever owned and I've had a few Moog synths over the last 40 years.

I love this thing and so much fun to fart around with, you'll get lost. I have it on the second their of my heavy duty Quiklok stand right above my Moog One 16 voice and what a combo.

Thank you Sequential and thanks TJ as always.
