Studio-quality Performance for the Concert Stage

When taking the stage, the last thing acoustic guitarists should have to worry about is equipment. That's why the LR Baggs Para DI is essential, as it ensures powerful, dependable, studio-quality performance for acoustic musicians. This exceptional acoustic guitar preamp features a variable-gain Volume control, making it compatible with both passive and active pickups. Its 5-band EQ, complete with tunable Notch and Mid bands, offers extensive tone-shaping capabilities. Additionally, the Para DI boasts a high-quality DI output, allowing you to send a pristine, balanced signal directly to front of house. Finally, this road-tested DI box also operates on either a 9-volt battery or via 48-volt phantom power.

Crystal-clear sound path with Class A FET input

When you need a rock-solid direct box that enhances your acoustic guitar’s tone, accept no substitutes! The Para DI’s discrete Class A FET input ensures a crystal-clear internal sound path, while its adjustable-gain Volume control makes it easy to match the levels of active or passive electronics. The 5-band EQ offers +/-12dB of correction and tunable Notch and Mid bands. A built-in FX Loop guarantees optimal signal quality throughout your entire signal chain. On the output side, you can choose between balanced XLR and 1/4-inch outputs. An Invert feature ensures optimal sound and provides effective feedback control. A total gain of up to +24dB rounds out the Para DI, ensuring a sufficiently powerful signal. At Sweetwater, we wholeheartedly recommend the Para DI to discerning musicians demanding studio-quality sound wherever they perform.

Reviews

A few words about PADI firs edition
Writing from Poland. I bought my brown jewel at McCabe's Santa Monica when I lived in LA. It was probably one of the earliest. I am queitly proud to put probably some input on its modification. There were a couple of things I criticised in my response to the designers. Today probably few are aware that its gain control was inside the box so you heve to unscrew the chasis and find a little trimmer. I emphasized that various Baggs pickups required completely different gain set up from weak ribbon to very powerful lb 6 and that control had to be accessible from the outside. Two- the effect insert was parralel not in series as today. And , three there were no white markers on the tiny pots so you never knew where you were at, particularly on a dark stage. I also called for a larger volume control but this was practically impossible due to limited space. I was very unhappy when soon after I found a new model with all my suggestions considered with no single word from the LR Baggs. I believe those early shortcomings were so obvious that my input was irrelevant. Certainly I bought the newer model. From my experience few soundmen are experienced enough to reduce board gain almost to "8" when this DI is connected to microphone input. Generally it is a weak point that you run line level signal thru microphone stage doubling input gain.

Just what I needed…
Went from powered onboard preamp system in my Larrivee LV-03R to passive K&K pickup system. The LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI gave me back more EQ control than I was getting direct to my board, but much more as well. Using lots of different sounds and settings in my solo act, the Baggs gave me enhanced touch sensitivity, fuller more rounded signal, really good sound through its effects loop, and a notch filter (which I'm still learning to use) for troubling frequencies. Super happy with the sound I'm getting, still tweaking and learning, but this unit really improved my stage sound, and works well with the other guitars I use in my act, accommodating alternate tunings and a twelve string.

Knowledgable
My sales engineer is very knowledgable but will never pretend to know an answer. He will never sell me on something I don't need. If I ask my engineer a question that he can not answer, he will find someone that can answer my question. I mean how valuable is that?

Own one and planning to get another
I've owned and gigged with one for years for my guitars then I moved over to mandolin and struggled to get a good tone on stage Then I use this acoustic DI dialed it in and wow great tone. I've had a few sound guys comment on the great tone of my mandolins when run thru this DI.
You need this!
The singer in our band always turns to me and says, "your guitar sounds incredible." And I always point to my LR BAGGS DI - but he doesn't get it. At some point I'm going to have to buy another one and start plugging him into it. He doesn't seem to care about his sound - the weakest part of our music. Not everyone reading these reviews is going to get it. Listen up, people. If you're taking an acoustic guitar on stage without a good DI like this, you're just not dialed in to sound quality. It took me a bit of experimenting to get the EQ and gain fully appreciated - the dials are very sensitive. And did I say these things are built like tanks?

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?
Corey Elliott
A few years into playing acoustic guitar, I picked up an LR Baggs Para DI, and for the past several years, it's been my go-to direct box. I play in a lot of different venues, and the Para DI's EQ makes it easy to shape my tone into something I can be proud of, no matter where I perform. I particularly appreciate the way the Presence control lets me bring out the best parts of my Taylor's sound, both when I play in a band or solo. And thanks to the adjustable notch filter, I never have to worry about problem frequencies causing feedback.
