The PYXIS 6K also offers flawless operation in a long list of resolutions and frame rates to suit the specific project at hand. It handles HD and advanced formats such as DCI 4K and 6K, even capturing jaw-dropping still images at an incredible 24.6-megapixel resolution! Aside from its astounding max 3:2 open gate resolution, the PYXIS 6K permits capturing in the following formats: 60 fps at 6048 x 2520 2.4:1; 60 fps at 4096 x 2160 4K DCI; 2112 x 1184 Super 16; anamorphic 6:5; and 120 fps in 1080HD.
User-friendly functionality
One of the first features that users will notice about the PYXIS 6K is its large 4-inch LCD screen, which conveniently displays status reports, monitors your feed, reviews shots, adds 3D LUTs, and more — all in HD! This HDR display with 1,500-nit brightness makes a superb framing and focusing assist tool. Its lockable button array is right on hand and quite intuitive to navigate as well, boasting a scroll wheel and custom function buttons for quick recall, not to mention all of your frame rate, focus, zoom, and color commands.
Convenient connections and controlling
No matter the destination or production space limitations, the PYXIS 6K will accommodate your operational needs with tremendous efficiency. Its impressive list of connections includes a 12G-SDI output for HD/Ultra-HD; USB-C recording expansion; REF/TC multicamera timecoding; Ethernet for Blackmagic Cloud and internet camera controlling; dual CFexpress recording slots; a mini XLR audio input; and 3.5mm mic/headphone ports. For power, connect a 12V DC power source or run the PYXIS 6K via BP-U series batteries that supply over three hours of filming at a time.
With RTS and RTMP livestreaming built-in to the PYXIS 6K, you can stream to the most popular platforms with a simple Ethernet or 4G/5G device connection. Operating the PYXIS 6K in hard-to-reach locations? This camera also enables wireless Bluetooth remote controlling! That’s right — a 30-foot range of control from the Blackmagic Camera Control app over your iOS/Android device allows for both convenient remote controlling and customizable cues for multiple cameras at once. Build the flawless workflow of your dreams!
Optimized systems and software
As is the case with all of Blackmagic Design’s enviably thorough video cameras, the PYXIS 6K operates via the company’s production-fluid Blackmagic OS and Blackmagic RAW protocols. These streamlined and quality-preserving systems render themselves quite useful throughout the entire production process, and especially during post-production. These systems allow each file to remain phenomenally untouched in detail, color, exposure, tracking, and reframing, from first capture all the way to the editing stage. When creating a small H.264 proxy file, the PYXIS 6K even allows users to capture media and send it back to the studio for editing within a matter of seconds, all thanks to Blackmagic Cloud.
Did somebody say editing? The PYXIS 6K bundles in the full version DaVinci Resolve Studio free of charge! Give your projects the sheen of Hollywood-grade editing software to transform the look and flow of every scene, packing in a suite of tools and features, including advanced color correction, audio and visual effects, detailed scene editing, and much more!
Designed for compatibility
The exterior of the PYXIS 6K features side plates with dual 1/4-inch thread mounts and a single 3/8-inch thread mount for integrating mics, brackets, SSD plates, and accessories with ease. It’s also compatible with the separately sold URSA Cine Viewfinder for improved accuracy during outdoor shoots and handheld operation. Lastly, this camera’s active L-Mount offers videographers simplified and secure functionality with a variety of modern full-frame camera lenses and lens adapters.
