The dbx 118 Dynamic Range Enhancer — Enhanced!
The dbx 118 dynamic range enhancer was renowned for its continuously variable vintage-style compression, linear expansion, and wide dynamic range that automatically improved the quality of any sound passing through it. A direct emulation of the dbx 118 would have been impressive on its own, but PSP Audioware took it further, enhancing the original’s capabilities to better suit the needs of modern music production. Now, you can utilize both compression and expansion simultaneously across your material's entire dynamic range by taking advantage of DRC's compressor/expander pair function. You can also isolate and process signals above or below your set threshold, giving you even more accurate precision. Lastly, DRC's intricate sidechain features, including an external sidechain input, further cement DRC as a powerhouse plug-in for all your mixing and mastering needs.

Behold the power of companding
Compressing and expanding simultaneously — known as "companding" or sometimes "compansion" — can have myriad benefits for your audio. Companding can increase dynamic range, improve your signal-to-noise ratio, reduce noise overall, and more. In DRC, this is done by setting its compressor ratio to 2:1 and its expander ratio at 1:2. If you ever find yourself working with audio material that has limited dynamic range to begin with, then DRC from PSP Audioware is the tool you need to shape it into something special.
PSP Audioware DRC Features:
- Reinvents the classic dbx 118 dynamic range enhancer by expanding upon its features
- Facilitates the use of compression and expansion throughout your material's entire dynamic range
- Isolate and process signals above or below your set threshold for deeper control
- Forward-thinking compressor/expander pair capability provides you with incredibly versatile dynamic processing options
- Increase dynamic range, improve signal-to-noise ratio, reduce overall noise, and more
- Intricate sidechain functionality opens a realm of sonic possibilities for both mixing and mastering
