Compact All-poplar Drums with a Stellar Sound

When you’re playing small venues, busking, or just jamming at home, a full-sized drum kit may be more than you need. With an incredible sound that won’t overwhelm a smaller space, the PDP New Yorker is an ideal compact kit. Drummers at Sweetwater noted that the all-poplar shells deliver a clear attack and a focused resonance. Thoughtfully selected shell depths and diameters balance tone and portability, and low-mass, teardrop mini-turret lugs contribute to the New Yorker drum kit’s reduced weight. The PDP New Yorker also includes a bass drum riser to elevate the 16-inch kick drum into your kick pedal’s strike zone. For a grab-and-go kit with stellar sound, you can’t go wrong with the PDP New Yorker.

PDP hardware enhances resonance and tuning

The PDP New Yorker began its life a decade ago as a portable DW Custom Shop kit. Its legacy of quality performance lives on in PDP’s hardware. Low-mass teardrop mini-turret lugs maximize shell resonance for a lively sound, and True-Pitch tuning rods with fine threads allow for precise tuning.

Includes Remo heads for a classic tone

A full battery of industry-standard Remo heads gives the PDP New Yorker a great tone right out of the box. Sweetwater drummers enjoyed the smooth, subdued tones these brought out in the drums and feel they’re a good starting place for drummers of all levels.

PDP New Yorker 4-piece Shell Pack Features:

  • Sizes: 8-inch x 10-inch Tom, 12-inch x 13-inch Floor Tom, 5-inch x 14-inch Snare, 16-inch x 16-inch Bass Drum
  • Compact kit perfect for small venues, busking, and home practice
  • All-poplar shells deliver a clear attack and focused resonance
  • Low-mass, teardrop mini-turret lugs enhance resonance and keep the drums light

Reviews

PDP New Yorker vs. Ludwig break Beats
I always rely on product reviews so thank you out there. I had the Ludwig Break beats as a gig set for practice as I do not want to break down and lug a 1969 Ludwig Hollywood set I have had for over 55 years. Loved the BreakBeats but read the NY is a better kit. So I had the opportunity to trade the BB in for the NY.

Both sound great, heard the quality of the NY was better but really did not notice a discernible difference. Both are Poplar shells. I suppose the NY sounds more like a higher level kit. Both snares need fine tuning. I added an evans prosound 20 snare wire strand that did improve the sound. I like the BB bass drum legs that are adjustable with a wing nut whereas the NY needs a drum key. No big deal, nit noit. The BD riser on the NY tends to move if not positioned correctly. Fiishes on both kits are very good and both look great. Happy Drumming!

Nice Kit For The Price
I purchased this kit earlier this year to add to my collection of compact kits for surf drumming. I also have a Ludwig Questlove and two Pearl Roadshow Jazz kits. These New Yorker drums are basically the same sizes as the Ludwig kit. I love the Electric Green Sparkle finish and the overall quality of the kit in this price range. The stock single ply heads will work well for a while-but I'm changing them to Remo Controlled Sound heads. Pinstripes also work well with drums of this size. These sound like larger drums if tuned correctly. It can be used for gigging-although I would not consider going on a national tour with them, as the hardware is not as heavy duty as touring would require. But for local shows, these are awesome!!! Just get some gig bags, a bass pedal of your choice and some cymbal stands-add a throne and you're ready for anything!!!!

PDP you should be proud
This bought this kit because I wanted something for my smaller gigs but gives me a big sound,I was sure that this could be achieve with these types of kits. Well I didn't want to spend a lot if i were right and I got this kit for a good price..Let me tell you i was wrong ... I put evans clear hydraulic on the batter side and remo color tone on the resonant side nothing in it that bass drum booms like my 22" and sounds awesome.I have been playing for over 50 years so I know my drums how to play and now the technical side of drums ... Look you don't have to pay big money to get big sound .. My engineer was impressed with the sound in the studio as we were testing if it was studio worthy, with the right heads it is right on time for the studio.. this is a hit for professional level kit..I love my New Yorker kit.. My sizes are 16"bass drum,10" mount tom,13"floor tom..color tone tom heads, evans bass drums.. studio all evans hydraulics..
Killer Kit
I really love this kit. I added a symbol arm to the base drum. The time zone incredible the 16 inch bass drum has a really nice punchy and low tone even for that small of a drum. The snare drum is not the highest quality, but certainly will work and actually record as well.
If there is anything that bothers me about the kit is that the bass drum is so small that to use the bass drum pedal and beater properly you're hitting towards the top of the drum. But I love playing it and it's so easy and fun to play. Been playing drums for 60 years. I've owned many kits.
Nice little monstor
Ordered the New Yorker to have a small, easily moveable kit for small gigs and getting to last minute jams. Ordered it on a Saturday and received it on Tuesday. Nick at Sweetwater kept me in the loop as far as tracking. Considering it wasn't scheduled to arrive until Thursday, I was super stoked when it showed up. Spent the time necessary to set everything up and the stock heads tune up pretty good but I'll be getting new heads shortly. I cranked the snare side up as far as I could and tuned the top head and was very happy with the snappy sound. So far, no complaints. It's an under $ set so I wasn't expecting show stopping sound. But then again, I'm not a show stopping drummer. It was more than I expected and the thing looks great! Love the color and happy I took the chance on it. I plan on getting a set of dedicated cymbals for it yet and I'm good to go.

The only downside is it came in the PDP box and not packaged at Sweetwater, so no catalog of cool stuff, no sticker, and no sweets! I'll survive.

Thanks to Nick and Sweetwater once again for coming through.
