A Precision Bass for the Modern Player

Fender's American Elite Precision Bass provides players with a classic bass that's updated for modern playing styles and techniques. You'll get the familiar round lows and aggressive mids that Precision Basses are known for, without the 60-cycle hum thanks to a fourth-generation Noiseless single-coil in the bridge and an Elite P Bass in the neck. An 18-volt active preamp adds a 3-band EQ and an active/passive switch. And a 9.5"-14" compound-radius fretboard makes the American Elite Precision Bass effortless to play.

  • Neck designed with you in mind
  • The quality is in the details
Familiar tones with a twist

Onboard the American Elite Precision Bass is a duo of Fender single-coil pickups. A split Elite P Bass pickup in the neck and a fourth-generation Noiseless J-style in the bridge deliver the Precision Bass's familiar punch and growl with more sonic options. But the Noiseless circuitry eliminates unwanted signal noise and hum, making the bass ideal for live performance and recording. The 3-band active preamp adds wide-ranging tonal control with a switch to go passive if you so choose. And the alder and maple construction with a rosewood fingerboard is a tried-and-true combination that has proven itself over decades.

Neck designed with you in mind

Fender Precision Basses have been known for their thick, sustaining neck profiles since their introduction. Their chunkier feel has made them a favorite among thousands of bassists worldwide. The American Elite Precision Bass continues the tradition with a comfortable contour that morphs from a "C" to "D" profile as you move up the neck. And the 9.5"-14" compound fretboard radius ensures comfort whether you're holding down the low end or delivering up melodic statements higher on the frets. This neck gives you the feel of a well broken-in bass as soon as you open the case.

The quality is in the details

Whether you play sitting or with one strapped over your shoulder, Sweetwater bassists are sure you'll appreciate the comfort of the American Elite Precision Bass's belly and arm contours. A Fender HiMass vintage-style bridge anchors the strings either through the body or in a top-load configuration. And adjusting the neck relief couldn't be easier because of the truss rod adjustment wheel located at the butt end of the neck. But because of a pair of Posiflex graphite support rods, you'll rarely have to worry about this ultra-stable neck.

Fender American Elite Precision Bass Features:
  • Upgraded American Precision Bass
  • 4th-generation Fender Noiseless bridge J-style pickup
  • Elite Precision Bass neck single-coil pickup
  • Active 3-band EQ opens up your tonal options
  • An active/passive switch is a lifesaver if your battery dies

Fender American Elite Percision Bass 3 Tone

This is an expensive bass for a Fender that's not vintage or customer shop. So my friends mouth gaped when I told him how much it cost. That aside, I am amazed at the feel and tone of this bass. The versatility of the electronics give me plenty of things to play with to dial in the tone I want. Active to passive switch is great. I wish I had this on all of my guitars. If I had to nit pick anything I would say that the rosewood fret board needed to be oiled as it was quite dry but I am quite capable of handling that task. Everything else on it from the fret dressing to the finish to the intonation was all spot on. I might lower the action a tad bit in the future but it's still in an acceptable range. That's all just player preference anyways. I like that the truss rod has a wheel so that any tweaking can easily be accomplished without any fuss. Sweetwater and Patrick Schaefer has been great in helping talk over my decisions and making sure I'm happy with the outcome. He also works with me so I feel confident I'm getting the best deal and best product. If you can afford this, I highly recommend it.

Sweetwater Advice

Fender American Elite Precision Bass

From a one-bass-fits-all perspective, the American Elite Precision has it. Fender has managed to capture the essence of a classic P, add a pinch of Jazz, and blend them together with the tonal prowess of a high-end custom instrument. Yes, plenty of basses are marketed as built for all styles of music, but the American Elite Precision can truly back this claim. ...
