Dark, Complex Hi-hats with Stunning Surface

Hammering cymbals changes their vibration characteristics, thus adding tonal complexity and eventually lending a “trashiness” to heavily hammered cymbals. The Meinl Pure Alloy extra-hammered hi-hat cymbals certainly aren’t trashy in the same way that a china cymbal is, but Sweetwater drummers feel there’s a slight edge to their sound, especially when played half-open. These extra-hammered hi-hat cymbals also have a dark, rich foot splash and a ‘chick’ sound with a lot of body that feels very satisfying to play. All in all, the Pure Alloy extra-hammered hi-hat cymbals are beautifully complex-sounding cymbals that blend well with jazz, progressive rock, and other harmonically rich genres.

Traditional, fully lathed surface

Fully lathed surfaces are a big departure from the raw, earthy cymbals Meinl is best known for today. This process gives all Meinl Pure Alloy cymbals a higher wash-to-stick ratio — more like traditional cymbals — for a sweet, lingering sustain.

Crafted by drummers for drummers

Meinl's cymbal innovation stems from both a deep love for the craft and a desire to provide drummers with the sounds they're buzzing about. Whether you're into the traditional Pure Alloy series or the modern-dry Byzance line, Sweetwater is confident that Meinl Cymbals has the sound you're after.

Meinl Cymbals Pure Alloy Hi-hats Features:

  • Part of Meinl’s Pure Alloy series of traditional-style cymbals
  • Fully lathed tops and bottoms provide an eye-catching sheen for the stage
  • Extra-hammered surfaces lend ear-catching sounds to the studio
  • Musical, slightly trashy sound when played half-open
  • Dark, harmonically complex foot splash and full-bodied “chick” sound
  • Excellent stick definition

Reviews

Killer hats!
These are some killer hats and perfectly fit the sound I was looking for!

A little back story, I have been playing a pair of the 14" Byzance Dark Hi-Hats for the last 10 years or so and LOVED them. I toyed around with getting some 15's a time or two, usually after a studio day, but never made the move. Well a few weeks back by beloved dark hats were involved in an scuffle with the floor and got cracked. So I began the look for new hats but wanted to try something new as I felt those were just a little lacking for my current project. After hours of research and listening to a dozen or so comparison videos I settled on these.

Now I'll admit off the jump I was horrified and upset that I made the wrong choice. They just sounded off to me and not what I am used. I stuck with because I knew I got these for a reason and just needed time to adjust. I am glad I did! At rehearsal I was forced to relax and just play and not focus on the sound.
By the second song I had forgotten about playing the new hats and was focused on the task at hand. We got to the per-chorus where I add in some "HH barks" and my jaw hit the floor. THIS WAS THE SOUND I WANTED! From then on I was sold. I am now excited to sit down and play on these and cannot wait to get them recorded and hear them in a mix.

Now, my only down side to these are the stick marks. I've been playing those dark hats so long I just forgot about that part of it. Not going to sway my opinion, just will need to clean them every few weeks.
Music background: Been playing drums/percission for 25+ years. Find me online under the name StaterDrums.
Versatility!
Wonderful pair of hi hats. They're buttery, have a great chic sound and open up without being too washy. Love em! Also, shoutout to Erik for always being super helpful.
