Great mic for the price

I've been using this mic for over a year now. I've tracked vocals, acoustic guitar, and an upright bass with it. It does a great job for me. It's a little brighter than a friend's KSM32, but not at all in a bad way. I would describe its character as more "modern" than "vintage". It puts out what it takes in. No coloring, other than the top end I mentioned. I've used this mic in figure 8 pattern with an Octava MK012 in mid-side on acoustic guitar - exceptional! It seems to like indirect sound sources.

It's What I wanted

I sing in a Southern Gospel Trio and wanted to use a studio mic in a live performance situation. I also did not want to spent a lot of money as we would only use it in limited venues. After speaking with my Sweetwater rep. and being assured that if this did not work I could return it (30 day guarantee) I purchased the AKG P420. Not only does it perform beyond my expectations, it sounds great! With 3 pick up patterns, a low cut filter and high SPL, we have been able to have a high gain with no feedback as we are back 18-24 inches from this mic. With a metal body it has a feeling of quality in your hands and does not disappoint as you use it. If you want a great sounding, live performance microphone without breaking the bank, give this a try. I don't believe you will regret it.

Perfect for Home Use

The option to switch between 3 settings is great. I just picked up a 2nd one for my very basic home/portable studio. I've used for everything including drums, vox, guitars, and bass. Great condenser if you're on a budget.

GREAT Microphone from AKG

This mic is no one trick pony! Considering the price, pattern options, bass roll-off switch and 20dB pad....it's a smart option for budget minded musicians. Sounds consistently good through PreSonus, Focusrite, and Audient mic pre-s I use! I used it with an AKG220 on a live, 2-mic drum recording, it sounded great(had a chance to find that the rarely used 220 is pretty decent, too;they have an AKG "sound") The different polar patterns are nice to have! The case and shock-mounts are added bonuses, for sure. 4 stars, solid!

AKG P420

I just picked up this mic for my home studio. My recording engineer recommended it I'm using it for recording straight unplugged acoustic recordings... I have gotten a great sound out of it ! I couldn't be more pleased with this mic. I paid $179 new for it... Just a huge bang for the buck here. The mic has a high end feel to it and looks great with the shock mount. The case it comes with is also very nice..
