Reviews

OMX-T - Great Idea, doesn't work for me
I play on a lot of small stages, and I like loud guitars. I have used an old AKG DM 880 for 2 decades, but worried that it is getting too old to rely on, and I have noticed that my SM-58 will pick up the cymbals, the guitars, etc, and reamplify them, sometimes causing a feedback loop. If I used any of my vocal effects at all, it would exacerbate the issue. So I did some research looking for a microphone that doesn't pick up so much of the surroundings, and found a lot of recommendations for the OMX-T. I do not scream into a microphone, but I generally stay pretty close to it. Unfortunately, the OMX-T might cut the surrounding sound out a little too well. If I am more than an inch or so away from the microphone, it loses the vocal. If I am slightly off axis from the front of the microphone, it loses the vocal. Used microphones are not often able to be returned, so it is sitting in its box, as a backup I hope I never have to use. I am sure this microphone would absolutely work for someone who keeps their lips on the microphone, or screams a lot, but it doesn't work for my uses. (Classic Rock, Blues, Country).
So Underwhelming
I have used an AKG D880M for close to 20 years, and started to worry about its reliability. As it's a supercardioid microphone, I really wanted to replace it with something similar, and am not a huge fan of Shure Beta 58s. I read a bunch of reviews, and it led me here. I ordered one and have to say that it borders on unusable for me. I sing in a southern rock band, as well as a blues band. This particular microphone does great at picking up what is directly in front of it, and close to it. Try dynamic singing, where you back off, even a few inches, and it is gone. I have no idea what stage, or who this would work for, but a microphone that won't pick up from 3-4 inches in front of it is of no use to a large section of singers. I suppose if you are the type to stay on the grill of the mic, this could be great for you.

Getting the most for the money isn't just a big deal for our customers, it's also what the artists and engineers at Sweetwater look for when we're shopping for our own gear. That's why we're such fans of Audix microphones. Early on, we discovered must-have Audix mics such as the handheld OM2, the tight and punchy D6 kick mic, and the super-versatile i5. You'll also find Audix specialty hardware like CabGrabbers and D-Vice mic holders in our studios and live rigs. Their drum mic bundles offer amazing value, while our house of worship customers love their MicroBoom line for miking choirs. No matter the application, Sweetwater is happy to recommend the right Audix gear for your needs.
