A Special Edition of a Powerful Stage Piano

Upping the ante from previous iterations, the Numa Compact SE from Studiologic marks a special edition of a beloved stage piano. The Numa Compact SE piano boasts 88 semi-weighted keys with Aftertouch, an enhanced factory sound bank, and newly developed acoustic and electric piano sound engines for engaging performance and captivating sound quality. Users can also enjoy the improved organ and synth engines. Plug in onstage, play aloud through the natural-sounding speakers, or connect a pair of headphones for silent practice at home. In summary, this edition of the Numa Compact brings you detailed control and improved sound quality like you’ve never experienced before!

Total musical control and realistic sound engines

Set out on your journey to rock and roll with the Numa Compact SE’s 148 high-quality built in sounds and a max polyphony of 200 notes. The 88 semi-weighted keys are more than a match to create natural-sounding passages and musical experimentations thanks to their Aftertouch capability. They’re also capable of handling the acoustic piano, electric piano, organ, and synth sound engines inside the Numa Compact SE. With the acoustic piano, pianists can waltz through delightfully realistic string/duplex resonance and damper/hammer noise courtesy of the revamped acoustic engine. With the electric piano, users can fine-tune the tine control and damper noise to hit that sonic sweet spot.

Take a stab at the rotary FX, chorus, and vibrato to add another layer to your organ sound. Users can now also experience the dedicated engine that mixes samples and effects to emulate the Numa X Piano’s physical modeling technology with tons of realism. Take it from Sweetwater, the Numa Compact SE is the real deal!

Dedication to the details that make the sonic experience

Studiologic weren’t ones to overlook the details. The Numa Compact SE packs three default velocity curves, pedal inputs, string resonance, and more under the keybed. This stage piano also packs up to 1GB of internal flash memory, including eight sound banks and 120 programs. Access your controls, sound engines, and more through the OLED display on the front panel. Dive deeper and explore the capabilities of the FX processor that offers a dedicated control section and can perform up to six effects simultaneously. Lastly, though it may look heavy with those 88 keys, the Numa Compact SE gets its name because this lightweight, compact piano only weighs 15 pounds.

Reviews

Number compact XSE
This is for my 10 year old daughter, I hope to see her play for her entire life.
I think this piano will get her interested for years to come.
Music background: Guitar 58 years
Great value, life saving action
I'm an old piano guy with arthritis so post surgery I play only "synth action" units. Except this one. It's very light but also very very good and has aftertouch. It's USB powered (no speakers when you do) which make it a great live controller plus backup sounds for your virtual rig.

The sounds are great, indeed improved from the prior 2 and 2x models. It's not a Nord, no, but it's also the fraction of the cost of a Nord. And the super lightweight build with speakers is great for hotel room practice and warmups.
Music background: Keyboardist and Music Tech consultant
This keyboard makes me feel guilty....

Let me start by saying I'm not a sophisticated keyboard user - I don't know anything about MIDI, customizing sounds, etc.... I wanted a versatile instrument that had good piano, EP, and organ sounds ready to go at the push of a button, and the Numa Compact SE provided all of that and more! It only took me a short time to learn the menus and quickly move from one sound to the next, even slightly tailoring them with Leslie, vibrato, etc...

I'm actually amazed at how good the sounds are (AP, Wurly, Rhodes, B3, Farfisa, and more) and how easy it is to pull each one up in a gigging situation.

Also, of extreme importance, I absolutely love the keyboard itself! It has just enough feel, touch and weight to strike a balance between piano, EP and organ, and is so gentle on my hands. (I was getting split nails doing glissandos on my old Roland RD-64.)

SPECIAL PLUS: It weighs 15 pounds!!

So why do I feel guilty? It seems like a total steal for the price. I almost feel like it's a misprint! I keep questioning myself - can this keyboard really be THIS good ? Should I send it back and splurge on a Nord? But at this point it's a keeper!

Also kudos to my sales rep Robbie Dennison for giving great advice and being patient with me.

Almost, but not quite, ready for prime time
The price is right for sure, and for what you pay, you get a lot. But this product was released before the firmware was right (depending on what you use the unit for, it might not matter, but trying to use it as a MIDI controller before a firmware update was a nightmare.) The form factor and weight are great, and while I'm not primarily a keyboard player, the feel of the semi-weighted keys is good. I also like the sounds a lot. That said, the owner's manual could use some clarifications, and editing presets in the unit is not as straightforward as it could be (and the manual should clarify that hitting the store button doesn't store changes--you have to push the main knob too, and that's nowhere in the manual and there's no prompt for it.

Again, nice sounds, nice form factor, and it doesn't weigh a ton, which are all big plusses. There was just more head scratching than there should have been.
