Nord’s 88-key Powerhouse Makes its Grand Return

For decades, Nord’s iconic red instruments have remained a premium staple of stage, studio, and touring rigs the world over. When the Swedish company debuted the original Nord Grand, it set a new standard for digital pianos, complete with a cutting-edge triple-sensor hammer movement system and multifaceted, state-of-the-art sound engine. Now, the Nord Grand 2 marks the reprise of this lauded keyboard in all its 88-key glory, further raising the bar for stage pianos. Everything to love about its predecessor is back and more accessible than ever, and even accompanied by an expanded sonic tool kit. Performers worldwide found the original Nord Grand to be a formidable contender for the “ultimate stage piano,” but Nord understood that perfection is a process, not a destination. With the help of musicians’ collective feedback after their time with the Nord Grand, Sweetwater’s keyboardists agree that the Nord Grand 2 88-key stage keyboard masterfully preserves everything about the Grand while making all the right moves to empower a worthy heir of the Grand 2 title. With expanded effects, a revamped keybed, and deeper sound-design capabilities for the synth and piano layers, the Nord Grand 2 is ready to summit breathtaking heights of stage and studio performances. Where will it take you next?

Optimized for sensitivity and feel

Among the slew of new features introduced with the Grand 2, players will be delightfully surprised to learn that a keybed is among them. Through collaboration with Kawai, Nord has devised a next-gen keybed that elevates the tactility and nuance-capturing sensitivity found across the Kawai RH3 keybed and Nord’s triple-sensor system, resulting in an experience closer than ever to that of an acoustic grand piano. Nord has also redesigned the interface to better accommodate the more expressive players among us, ergonomically optimized for high-caliber performances that keep sensitive controls away from accidental disruption, all without sacrificing proximity and accessibility.

Greater texturization with more FX flare

Piano and Synth engines can now be combined through dual-layer or split configurations, each featuring a dedicated effects section. Speaking of which, the Grand 2 sees an expanded suite of effects, alongside an equally valuable expansion to the Nord Sample Library, adding Spring, Booth, and Cathedral reverbs, as well as Filter, Flam, and Ping Pong delays, and a dazzling Spin effect.

Expressive tools for high-caliber performances

With the Sample Synth section’s broad array of lifelike instruments, you can push expressivity even further. Individual layers are subject to adjusting dynamic velocity responses, ADR values, and a choice of Bright tones. Furthermore, a Unison mode blends voices to conjure mammoth ensembles with your sounds, while a Tru-Vibrato is available for faithfully and meticulously re-created vibrato characteristics of every onboard ensemble instrument. This also led to the development of a Round Robin mode, naturally reproducing the tight nuances of fast repetitions. Mono and Legato modes with an adjustable Glide parameter stand to take your Sample Synth sonics to rich, evocative spaces, while the included Triple Pedal 2 ensures every aspect of your upgraded Grand 2 performance is masterfully executed.

Nord Grand 2 88-key Stage Piano Features:

  • 88-note keybed custom-designed in collaboration with Kawai to enrich the hammer-action and advanced triple-sensor performance possibilities of its predecessor
  • 120-voice polyphony is more flexible than ever, between Unison mode and enhanced split/layering options
  • Expanded memory for Sample Synth library means extended sound design opportunities with dazzling new effects
  • Per-layer adjustments to dynamics, curves, tone profiles, and more support greater combinatorial possibilities of sonic exploration
  • Triple Pedal 2 is included to enhance all shades of expressive potential
  • Tru-Vibrato and Round Robin modes offer flexible control of lifelike vibrato and quickly-repeated play styles
  • Dust cover included to protect your instrument when not in use

Best digital piano on the market!!
I've owned many digital keyboards. This one far exceeds them all! What separates this keyboard from the others is its playability, the piano sounds, and the new key bed. Nord makes it so easy to see everything you're doing and tweak your sound at an instant!! The piano sounds are lush and gorgeous out the box!! Same with the Electric Pianos! So lush and beautiful! And with the triple sensor on the new Kawai key bed, they've made the perfect keyboard!! I chose this instead of the Nord Stage 4 simply because I already own the Nord C2D! With Nords piano library, you can switch between dozens of different pianos, which is so nice because you'll NEVER get board with this thing!!
Music background: Semi-professional gospel/jazz pianist
Just an amazing instrument! The Best!

So if piano is your instrument of choice you have two options; a Steinway Model D concert grand for $ or a Nord Grand 2 for $ Monitors and accessories. The are both great and if you have the money, talent and space, go with the Steinway, otherwise, the Nord. The Nord is not only a great sounding and flexible instrument, it is beautiful constructed and looks great in my space without taking up a lot of room. I can't say enough about the sound and design - for me nothing else comes close. 10 out of 10! Sweetwater has been great to work with and I get all my music related needs through them. Keep up the good work!

Music background: Choral singer, piano lover.
Nord Gradnd 2
I have found the piano of my dreams! The Nord was delivered to me as promised in time for a quick rehearsal then off to a live radio broadcast in an Un-Plugged set of the Grateful Dead. When I listened to play back, I fell in love with this new gear!
First is the Kawai keyboard. The feel of the keys are exactly the same as an acoustic piano and the action and response convinces the ear that you are sitting at an upright or baby grand.
Then the voices, I love the ability to switch from a very believable piano to a sweet synth lead in a touch of a button.
Ashton Vaudt, my Sales Engineer at Sweetwater is awesome in getting my gear delivered to me at a fair price and in my studio as quickly as anyone could ask for.
Thanks to the fantastic team at Sweetwater!!
Music background: Professional Jammer
Touch matters!
My top two stage pianos in terms of the touch and response of a hammer action is the Roland Rd2000 and now the Nord Grand 2. Having a Stage3 compact made it easy to navigate and all the buttons and knobs are in convenient locations. The sound and tweaking of the sound coming out of a stereo connection is as good as your ear and taste is. This is a board that will stay with me for live, I can always up grade the sound banks but the touch and response is top tier. I order it on Monday and it was delivered the next day from a different state at free shipping price.
Nord Grand 2 88-Key Stage Keyboard Review
The Nord Grand 2 is a top-tier stage piano, especially if you're after something that feels like a real acoustic grand. The keybed is one of its standout features, super realistic and responsive, almost like you're playing an actual grand piano. The keys are weighted just right, so you can really dig in or play lightly depending on your style. It's got a great, natural feel that gives you full control over dynamics, which is a big plus for me.

The piano sounds are also impressive. You get a solid mix of both acoustic and electric pianos, and they all have a rich, full sound. Whether you're after a bright, clear tone or something a bit warmer, there's a great range to choose from. Plus, the ability to tweak the sounds with EQ and effects gives you plenty of flexibility, which is always nice when you want to shape your tone.

The build quality is rock-solid, too. It's built to last and can take some bumps, but it's still stylish and sleek enough to look great on stage. While it's not as portable as the Nord Stage 4, it's still manageable if you need to take it on the road.

Overall, the Nord Grand 2 is a fantastic option for pianists who want a high-quality, realistic-feeling keyboard. It has everything you need for live performance or studio work—just with a bit more weight compared to other models in the Nord lineup.
