Big Red Turns Six

The Nord Piano 6 builds upon the excellence of its predecessor — a Sweetwater favorite — to bring you a superb studio and stage piano with across-the-board improvements. The next-generation Nord Piano boasts the company’s latest cutting-edge sounds and a fresh, intuitive panel layout with LED faders and dual layers for Piano and Synth, each with its own independent effects engine. For unparalleled playability, Nord spec’d Piano 6 with its acclaimed, premium Triple Sensor keybed. All these features, in tandem with a sleek, portable chassis and tour-tough build quality, make the Nord Piano 6 an ideal choice for both live performance and sound design, onstage and in the studio.

Nord’s next-gen stage piano is a beast

Boasting two independent piano layers, dual independent sample synths, and mountains of memory, the Piano 6 can ace the most demanding live gigs and recording sessions. With Nord Piano 6, you can quickly execute seamless program-change transitions and assign split points with optional crossfades. The Piano section features 120-note polyphony and Nord’s acclaimed Virtual Hammer Action technology with three dynamic curves for an amazing, customized playing feel. If you’ve been curious why Nord keyboardists are so fiercely loyal, five minutes alone with the Nord Piano 6 will open your ears to the sheer creative power on tap in this formidable digital piano/synth. Available in 88-key and 73-key models featuring Nord’s superb Triple Sensor keybed with grand weighted action, the Piano 6 offers an exceptional playing experience that will satisfy even the most serious pianists.

Independent Piano and Sample Synth sections

The Piano and Sample Synth sections of the Nord Piano 6 each comprise two independent layers, and you can simultaneously deploy custom split or layer combo configurations as needed. Combined with the instrument’s flexible and adaptable effects routing, a broad variety of combinations can be crafted, from vintage ensembles to rich contemporary soundscapes — and everything in between. Furthermore, Nord’s Advanced Layering technology and dedicated LED faders for each Layer make it easy to build deep, richly detailed sounds using up to two Pianos and two Sample Synths.

Innovative Nord technologies for the ultimate piano experience

The Piano 6’s meticulously engineered keybed gives you absolute control over your dynamics at any velocity level. Nord’s Virtual Hammer Action technology works in concert with precision physical hammer movements to provide a keyboard action that delivers stunningly realistic playability and dynamic response. The company’s Advanced String Resonance accurately reproduces the complex interplay of the piano strings — it also adds the body resonance of a real acoustic piano when the damper pedal is depressed. The Nord Triple Pedal unit comprises Soft and Sostenuto Pedals, as well as the unique Dynamic Sustain Pedal with Nord’s Pedal Noise feature, which dynamically emulates the mechanical sounds of lifting and releasing the damper mechanism of a genuine grand piano.

Reviews

Fantastic instrument, better than I dreamed it would be!!!!!

I'm not a professional or self-proclaimed expert, I just know what I like/don't like. I've played guitar for the past 40 years or so, but have only taken up piano in the last several years. Most of that has been on a Yamaha P-121, which has been whittled down into being nothing but a usb midi keyboard because I've learned I can't stand the Yamaha sound no matter which model or who's playing it. The P-121 looks, feels, and sounds like a toy now compared to the Nord.

The shipping and delivery went off without a hitch. Sweetwater did a fantastic job as usual. I pre-ordered from the second batch they had coming in. On the day mine arrived less than a week later, that second batch had sold out!!! They seem to be flying off the shelves.

Much has been said and argued on the interwebs about the action, 2gb piano storage, price, and everything else.

Either you like the Nord piano sounds or you don't. I can't say I like them all, but the ones I do like, I absolutely love. I just removed the ones I'm not enamored by, and switched out my keepers with the XL's (or L's) where I could. I still have lots of room to spare. I did keep a few pianos that may not sound that great on their own, but work well for layering. The Velvet Grand is what brought me to Nord in the first place, but the Mellow Upright is the one that keeps surprising me the most. The Mellow is outstanding!!! Having the separate faders for each layer makes it super easy to fine tune the levels when mixing sounds (not a huge thing, but it's nice to have). The Sound Manager software is powerful and easy to use.

Does the action feel like an "authentic" grand piano??? Probably not. Not that I expect it to; the mechanical differences between the two are as vast as the ocean. I have no idea what a top-of-the-line action is "supposed" to feel like. The Piano 6 feels great to me. Certainly better than my Yamaha. And way better than the action on a Roland V-Stage, which feels disgusting. I've played quite a few other keyboards before settling on the Piano 6, none have felt "better" in a meaningful way, just different. The Grand 2 action feels a little heavier than this. Let's be honest: I'm 55 years old, and I've never so much as touched a real acoustic concert grand in my entire life. Comparing the keybed of a digital piano to a $ grand seems a bit asinine to me. But for what it is, I think it feels "just right". When I'm sitting and playing on the Piano 6, I literally don't even think about the action, it just kinda disappears. The interaction between my fingers, the hardware, and software feels incredible to me.

I used an aluminum piece of L stock I had laying around, 5mm lag bolts, and a bit of foam to fashion a little "music stand" for my iPad to sit on. It's not color-coordinated, but it does the job!

Great Keyboard from a great company.
The Nord is one of the best on the market and buying from Sweetwater makes it easy. The price was great and they shipped it out the next day. Everything went perfect.
Nord Piano 6
This keyboard is a dream for gigs! Great piano sounds from big grands to baby spinets. Electric piano sounds with awesome easy to use effects are killer. It's all in there plus so much more. The keyboard feel is fantastic! If you're on the fence with buying a Nord don't be you won't be disappointed. Love it!!
Music background: Working musician
perfect for my needs
This is a fantastic keyboard. I play primarily classical music and the piano sounds in the Nord are a perfect fit. I can be very expressive with the music because of the triple sensor key action. I don't need the keyboard to replicate that of a grand piano--I am fortunate enough to have a grand piano too. But the Nord is perfect for my aging hands.
