A Pre-EQ'd Kick Drum Sound for the Stage and Studio

The bass drum is a difficult instrument to get right. The Electro-Voice ND68 takes a lot of the guesswork out of the equation by giving you a pre-EQ'd sound, with plenty of heft and attack, for set-and-forget live sound and studio work - often without the need for additional EQ. The ND68's supercardioid pickup provides good isolation to keep cymbals and stage amps from bleeding into your signal. A large-diaphragm element with a high 144dB SPL rating, powerful bass response, and a musical midrange contour helps your kick punch cleanly through the densest of mixes. And bonus: the ND68's extended low end makes it a winner for upright bass and cello, Leslie cabs, and floor toms. If you're looking for a kick drum/LF mic you don't have to finesse, Sweetwater engineers agree that the Electro-Voice ND68 is a good place to start.

The Electro-Voice ND series picks up where N/DYM left off

For years, EV's N/DYM series of live and studio dynamic microphones have been a beacon of hope to us low-enders and live-sounders. And now Electro-Voice promises to deliver even better performance with its EV ND collection. This line includes eight new vocal, drum, amp, and instrument mics to cover a wide range of stage and studio needs. Beneath the dent-resistant Memraflex grilles are redesigned large-diaphragm capsules with humbucking coils and internal shockmounts to capture a rich, musical sound with low noise - all on a budget. When you need dependable performance on a workingman's income, Sweetwater sound professionals encourage you to check out Electro-Voice ND microphones.

Electro-Voice ND68 Kick Drum Microphone Features:
  • Large-diaphragm dynamic mic with huge bass and a contoured midrange
  • Replacement to the N/D868
  • Voiced for a radio-ready kick drum sound

Reviews

Love it
Great kick mic, and it's good as a cross-genre microphone, it takes EQ well. I would use this over a Beta52 or D112.

Keeps me coming back
Anytime I use a different kick drum mic I compare it to this one, and this one wins every time. Beats the "industry standard" by a mile in tone. With some EQ it's easy to get great punch with this mic. I've used this at hundreds of shows without a hiccup and if it every broke I'd buy a new one in a heartbeat. I'd recommend this on a kick drum over any thing else. All of the EV ND series of mics are fantastic on drums!
Great mic for price
Really like the sound of this mic. Really like the price.
WOW! Just wow! This should be the industry standard! prove me wrong.
For years, I've been using a combination of Shure Beta 91 inside with a Beta 52a outside, always struggling to balance low end with punch. Have played with Audix D6 and AKG D112 as well, and neither mic ever sounded full-range by itself, and needed a lot of treatment with EQ and compression.

A Nashville legend of a drummer told me to try this, and said he's using it in his own studio now.

Placed this mic just inside the hole pointed at the beater, and it's like magic. All the low end you could want with plenty of punch. It doesn't 'scoop out' all the mid-range either. Mids are there, but balanced and proportioned.
Now I can make small EQ adjustments for finesse, rather than sweeping deep cuts just to make it workable.

If the kick doesn't sound right through this, it's the drum not the mic.

sleeper mic
Got this mic on the recommendation of my sweetwater rep, and what a great purchase. Incredible on kick, absolutely stunning on floor toms, and it's easily my favorite mic on a 8x10 bass cabinet. It's built like a tank and has never let me down. Crazy good value in comparison to other kick mics out there that don't sound half as good.
