A High-speed 6-string Stallion

A no-nonsense take on the classic Fender Mustang, the Squier Sonic Mustang is teeming with alt-rock attitude! This guitar’s slightly compact offset poplar body is loaded with a pair of Squier ceramic single-coil pickups, producing bell-like cleans and an aggressive snarl when you stomp on your favorite distortion pedal. Next, the neck’s maple-on-maple construction and “C” shape deliver a feel that splits the difference between playing comfort and high-performance playability. Prefer an instrument with a slinky string feel? The Mustang’s classic 24-inch scale length offers a relaxed tension and reduced fret-to-fret travel distance — perfect for developing guitarists and players with a slightly smaller grip. Whether you’re after an attitude-equipped first instrument or looking for a bold new sound to add to your arsenal, the Squier Sonic Mustang is a short-scale powerhouse.

Dual Mustang-style ceramic pickups for single-coil sparkle

Like the original Fender Mustang, the Squier Sonic Mustang comes equipped with clear-as-a-bell single-coil pickups. However, unlike the original, this Mustang lives up to its high-speed designation with a hot ceramic magnet design! This results in a pickup that seamlessly merges the clear character of the classic Mustang-style single-coil with a raw, biting response when pushed into dirtier territory. What’s more, Sweetwater’s die-hard short-scale aficionados love how Mustang-style single-coil pickups tend to retain a sonically neutral character that perfectly pairs with pedal-heavy rigs.

Low-tension 24-inch scale length

While most Fender/Squier 6-string family models sport a 25.25-inch scale length, the Mustang family clocks in at a slightly shorter 24 inches. What does that mean for you? More relaxed playability up and down the fingerboard, with a shorter distance between each fret and slinkier string tension. Make no mistake, it’s still by all means a full-size instrument — as evidenced by the legions of alt-rock and indie players devoted to the Mustang family, including the late legendary Kurt Cobain — but it does offer a significant fingerboard advantage to a player with smaller hands or a musician looking for a snappier sound and feel.

Maple neck with a comfortable “C” carve

The Squier Sonic Mustang’s maple-on-maple neck will surely please players of all styles and backgrounds, sporting a crowd-pleasing “C” profile. It’s more than substantial enough to accommodate players with slightly larger hands while sporting a lightning-fast feel for fleet-fingered runs. Up top on the fingerboard, this neck is loaded with 21 Narrow Tall in a modern 9.5-inch radius to provide slick, fast playability with no fret-outs.

Squier Sonic Mustang Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Lightweight poplar body in a highly comfortable offset body shape
  • Packed with iconic Mustang-style alt- and indie-rock flavor
  • Maple neck in a highly playable “C”-shape neck
  • Matching maple fingerboard with a modernized 9.5-inch radius for effortless bends up and down the fingerboard
  • Dual Squier ceramic single-coil pickups produce a clear, defined tone that transforms into an aggressive bite when you kick on the distortion pedal
  • Rock-solid 6-saddle top load bridge
  • 24-inch scale length for a slinkier feel with reduced string tension

An amazing budget guitar!

It arrived in good condition. I did have to adjust the bridge because the low e was buzzing. But aside from that, it has been an exceptional guitar. I recommended this to beginners and experienced players. It's great guitar overall.

Super Sonic (Mustang) " A reissue in a sense"

Firstly let me state that while this guitar is not an accurate reissue of the 1950's Sonicaster...it is highly reminiscent of that model. I owned one of those Supersonics back in the late 1970's. I also owned at that time a 1952 Esquire that I purchased for $ in 1970. Man...do I wish I had that one now!!! Ditto for the early 1950's Supersonic. As for this model I give it four stars mostly because of the finish work on the "reissue". While mine does not have "fret sprouts" the finishing of the fret ends could have been a wee bit smoother. But this does not take away from THE VIBE of the guitar. It feels "oldish" in my hands. Like a quasi-realistic incarnation of the original. I like the feel of the neck regarding scale and nut width. The weight is a dreamy light almost 5 lbs. The pickups DO NOT STINK!! I kind of LIKE them even though I'm not SURE if I should. Either way I have no plans to replace them. Sound wise: it has the essence of Fender Twang that I much prefer over the sounds of Gibson guitars. I have owned many Gibsons over the years and while I like some models more than others I still prefer FENDER TWANG. I think Fender has done us a service by making a VIBE LIKE model for such a bargain price but I would like them to spiffy up this model a tad and use the 'FENDER' moniker. It is more SONICASTER than MUSTANG.

String Nut

I returned this Sonic Mustang because the nut slot for the high E string is cut too close to the edge of the fretboard resulting in the string sliding off the edge of the fretboard. This is my only complaint.
