A Flexible Headphone Amp for the Purist

Headphones are everywhere these days, which is why accurate, low-fatigue headphone reference monitoring is essential for professional audio engineers. Enter the Little Labs Monotor. The Monotor features a purist circuit topology with one state-of-the-art active stage per channel; the remainder of the circuit path is straight-wire passive. There are separately amplified, dual 1/4" and 1/8" headphone jacks, and a single volume potentiometer. Little Lab knows that appraising your mixes in mono is essential, so the Monotor offers left-plus-right, left, right, and left-minus-right settings for checking phase and analyzing artifacts in compressed digital files.

Audiophile circuit topology for the absolute sound

The Monotor employs a cutting-edge, full-voltage low-noise internal linear regulation system with massive capacitance that delivers power on demand for each rail. As compared with most headphone amps, this allows for dramatically improved dynamic range. Another benefit is that the Monotor will also be able to drive high-impedance 'phones to full volume with no problem, and with no noticeable hiss, even with the volume dimed. Tech nerds here at Sweetwater know that this all translates to natural, accurate sonic presentation of the source material, thus placing the onus of accuracy on your choice of headphones.

So this is what I'm supposed to hear? Nice!

You know the phrase "you don't know what you're missing?" Well, that applies to this "little" but HUGE headphone amp. Not only has it made a critical difference in the vocalist's headphone mix, where their voice is now much more "clear" than before, but also when mixing it has so much versatility and quality sound reproduction, it's unparalleled. Want to see how your mix translates to 1/8 phone buds? Got it covered. Multiple mono and stereo mixes? Yep, that too. While it may seem expensive, it's not, because the value is so through the roof it's absolutely worth it.

I've been using this for two weeks. Initially I wanted RHNP, but it was not available for immediate shipping, so I ordered Little Labs monotor with HD 650 with Mr. Aaron Tremain (and I recommend him too). Initially, it was an obvious upgrade from my Motu 1248 headphones amp, but I was second guessing if it was worthy the price and the aggressive claims that Little Lab's owner does. After using for two weeks, it has grown on me so much, and the detail that you can listen when recording or mixing is really incredible. I found out so many errors that I have been doing while recording and mixing that I would probably have not noticed with my HS8 (that I like very much) or my Motu 1248 headphone amp. If I was beginning again, little lab's monotor would be my very first purchase. I would strongly recommend this unit. it can also be very pleasing (which I actually didn't like first) and be used for listening enjoyment, but the detail is all there. tails, panning, clipping, oversaturated, how bad a wav file was converted to mp3, etc. I'm really blown away. My hearing is evolving a lot now. The only downside is that it doesn't have a power on/off switch. despite that, I still go for 5 stars.

The clarity, depth, and fullness this amp brings to your headphone is just amazing

Monotor is exactly what i need!

One look at the power supply and i knew this would have SERIOUSLY great sound quality, low noise and HEAPS of gain. I have used this for a few weeks for mastering, tracking and some mixing too. The clarity is unbelievable and the build quality leaves little to be desired. Driving my Oppo PM-3, AKG 702 or ATHm-50s it sounds spectacular. Although i have yet to use them more than a few times, the different monitoring "modes" are a lifesaver. I could go on and on, but I have music to work on! GRRRRRREAT JOB Little Labs. I also love that i literally have Serial #4! So cool...

I've used Little Labs' gear in my studio for years, and I'm equally impressed by their Monotor headphone amp as I've been with their VOG and PCP. The Monotor drives my high-end headphones with greater fidelity, low-end depth, and high-end clarity than ever. I can really hear what my mixes sound like! And it's not just great for mixing - this amp delivers the kind of audiophile-grade, reference-quality sound that makes listening to music in general even more satisfying.
