A Little Bass Brute from Peavey

Peavey's MiniMax bass amplifier head packs a punch - in a diminutive package. How do they pack 500 watts of bone-rattling power into a chassis that weighs under six pounds and fits in your backpack? Cutting-edge technology - that's how. But the MiniMax story doesn't begin and end with raw power. This little beast has finesse. Like DDT speaker protection, 3-band EQ, Peavey's TransTube gain boost, and psychoacoustic low end enhancement that adds bottom without killing your speakers. Yes, MiniMAX boasts an impressive feature set, but it also has a gentle price tag that any working bass player can afford.

A massive tone arsenal

The Peavey MiniMAX packs a massive tone arsenal that you'll find ideal for any live or studio gig. To shape your signature sounds, you get 3-band EQ with Punch, Mid-shift, and Bright controls, as well as Peavey's psychoacoustic low end enhancement. What's more, MiniMAX sports a pre-gain control with Peavey's TransTube gain boost, which lets you add tasty tubular growl to your sound. There's even a convenient built-in chromatic tuner that allows for easy tuning on the fly.

Built like a tank

The MiniMAX boasts the rock-solid construction that, at Sweetwater, we've come to expect from Peavey gear: this little brute is built to withstand years of pro touring abuse. The back panel gives you an FX loop to patch in your effects and an XLR DI output for connection to your sound reinforcement system. The MiniMAX mates beautifully with Peavey's Headliner or PVH series bass enclosures, for a reliable, super-lightweight professional bass rig.

Bang for your buck

Excellent amp, very small and light, easily portable and the carrying case included is pretty decent too. This thing is LOUD, you get a LOT of volume for the price. I would recommend this to just about anyone, not just the bassist on a tight budget.

Peavey MiniMax Bass Amp Head

Lots of power in a small package! I have used a lot of different brands of amps in the past including Peavey. I have always found Peavey to be a lot of amplifier for the dollar. This is no exception. The MiniMax seems to be built really well. Good range of tone settings. The Psycho -Acoustics low end boost gives some additional bottom when playing through the 10" speakers of my cabinet. The Trans Tube feature can give the crunchy sound almost like a tube amp without affecting the overall volume setting. The on board tuner is a great feature that comes in handy and the aux in and headphone jack make late night practice possible. One of the best features is the weight (or lack of). At about 6 pounds it will travel well in a backpack or its own carrying bag. No schlepping 50 or 75 pound amp heads around. Is it perfect? Maybe not, but it's a whole lot of power and tone in a small lightweight amplifier. And the chickenhead knobs lend a little "retro-mojo" to the package, along with making it easy to see your settings at a glance . Right now I'm only using one 8 ohm cabinet. I plan to add another 8 ohm cabinet to realize the full 500 watts of power at 4 ohms. Great power, good tone control and a lot of features make the Peavey MiniMax a great choice for the money.. Thanks to Chris Nunley at Sweetwater for all the help.

Fantastic Amp for the Price, if not Incredible

Can't believe what you get with this amp, for the price. As good if not better than MB and GK portables. Excellent tone. Neutral to slightly warm. Simply outstanding. Don't think twice - just buy!

Peavey Mini Max 500

This is a great bass head in a light weight package I am a old style bass player that likes a lot of bottom. This amp does it all I am using it with a 2 10 cabinet and a 1 15 cabinet and it is a perfect match Love it

Peavey knocks it out of the park

This amp is great! Has feature wish list such as built in tuner, headphone and aux in for practice at home, Lots of EQ options, the DI sounds great live. I have had many other mini amps like this one, and this one beats them all. It has plenty of power too!
