Great Little Amp with Freedom from 120VAC!

I bought this amp to help certain acoustic-based gigs where I wanted a little push for clean leads while the rest of the band played - easy to lose a nice acoustic lead in the "mix" of other guitars/mandos/fiddles whatever. I played a two-day folk festival recently and it was exactly what I needed - I could walk around with my acoustic guitar on my back and amp in hand, and set up anywhere. I use the JC clean setting and a fair bit of delay usually. I often use a dirt/boost pedal to kick up the volume during the lead - boost pedal off the main sound is natural from guitar - kick the pedal on, and I get great lead tone for a solo.Although I don't use the other amp modes much, they sound pretty good for such a small box. No, you aren't going to drown out your neighbor who is playing through a real Marshall Stack, but if you are playing in your bedroom at night or office at lunch, expect someone to ask you to turn it down!It lasts a long time on the six AA batteries - I played probably 12 or 14 hours with no running down, and recharged them at that point just to get them full for the festival (NiMH rechargables seem to work just fine). This would be great for busking the whole day through, or playing coffee shops or small reasonably quiet pubs. And if you run off the wall-wart, it makes a great practice amp. There are other similar portable battery-powered amps out there, and I suspect they are also high quality. So I'm not slamming them - I picked this one because the feature set and price was right (and the white tolex look is different from all the other black amps I have ;^).I would have loved to have something like this when I first started playing over thirty years ago...

Roland Micro Cube GXW

I recently purchased a Roland Micro Cube GXW and its the best sounding amp I have ever played through for its size. I am a Chet Atkins fingerstyle player and the tone is spot on,even better than a lot of high dollar amps I have tried through the years to get Chets tone, and is plenty loud enough. The effects are very good, and the tuner on the amp is a nice feature. And Sweetwater was excellent in getting it to me very very fast, as always. Every guitar player should own one,its that impressive. Much better tone than the older models. I may have to purchase another one to hear how much difference there may be with 2 in stereo! Thanks Sweetwater!

Great clean sound for a practice amp

I own some smaller portable amps and they put out the volume, but they also put out a lot of distortion. I like distortion when I play around with a lead, but when I am just strumming, I like a clean sound and this amp can give it out. I practice at times with some good ole boys and this amp can keep up the volume to be heard and I don't have to find a wall plug in when I go to their house.

The Cube is great

The FX Cube is very versatile. On the street busking- I use one for vocals/harp, and 1 for guitar. Great to practice with. The FX Cube batteries are easier to replace the standard Cube, and the controls on top are also an improvement. I also have a Pignose, but if you crank it up, the buzz and distortion from the speakers is a downer( I only use it for practice). The Cube FX is this best value of anything I have used or heard-Peavy makes one but it is not near as good.

Good things come in small packages

A very good friend of mine turned me on to Roland amps years ago. He has an earlier version of this amp and I was impressed with the tones that came out of it. I love this little amp!!! It has more features than the older model and you can really dial in some cool sounds. Good cleans and nasty distortion and a little bit of everything in between. It may be small but it honks. I use it as a practice amp in the living room, but this could easily be used in smaller live settings. The effects are good. Not pedalboard good, but enough the shape your sound. If you're looking for a great little practice amp, this is it.
