Pocket-sized iOS Mic for Full-sized Production

Shure's MOTIV MV88 may look like a lot of other iOS mics, but its combination of amazing sound and phenomenal versatility have made it one of the most popular mobile mics among the staff here at Sweetwater. For starters, the MV88's sound is clean and clear, whether you're inches away, recording an interview in a noisy environment, or sitting back on your sofa and laying down a new song idea with your favorite couch guitar. Multiple capsules let you record in variable cardioid, figure-8, and mid-side stereo, among other options, which you can access from the free ShurePlus MOTIV iOS app.

iOS app lets you tap into powerful DSP

One of the coolest things about Shure's MOTIV series hardware is the flexible DSP onboard. While some devices let you recall multiple presets from their control panels, the ShurePlus MOTIV iOS app lets you access their entire DSP engine. From the ShurePlus MOTIV app, you can dial in your MV88's gain structure, add compression and limiting, and fully adjust the frequency response via a graphic EQ. The ShurePlus MOTIV app also makes recording in iOS easy. The interface is simple yet effective, editing is remarkably fast and intuitive, you get full 24-bit/48kHz digital resolution, and compatibility with Dropbox and other export options streamline the rest of your creative process.

The sound you need for any application

Whether you're creating music, gathering news, podcasting, vlogging, conducting interviews, or applying your mobile device to any other recording task, your Shure MV88 delivers the top-quality sound you need. When you need the highest resolution audio you can get, turn to the dedicated ShurePlus MOTIV iOS app, where you get access to full 24-bit/48kHz. Sweetwater iOS recording experts love that you can program your MV88 from the app and then take those settings into any other app, including your favorite video apps or iOS DAW. Lay down layers of music tracks in Cubasis, capture pristine audio for video in Pinnacle Pro, put together world-class podcasts in bossjock — it's all at your fingertips with the Shure MOTIV MV88.

Built tough and ready for real field work

One thing that many field-recording pros at Sweetwater consider about mobile mics such as the Shure MV88 is how well they'll hold up to real field work. We're talking about the kind of run-and-gun recording, where you have seconds to get your rig out before losing the chance to capture one-of-a-kind opportunities. Those are the times when you're going to occasionally fumble with your gear, and it's going to take a spill. After months of field work with the MV88, we're happy to say this thing holds up. Its all-metal body is no joke, and even the lightning connector is built tougher than normal. What's more, the MV88 comes complete with a zippered carrying case, which, along with the windscreen and headphone adapter cable, makes this a truly complete kit.

Shure MV88 iOS Stereo Condenser Microphone Features:

Ignore The Noise

Sometimes reviews can helpful steering you away from a bad purchase and navigating you toward a good one. In this instance, I was saved by a Sweetwater product video that contradicted a false claim by an uninformed reviewer. This microphone is stunning! And it does tilt toward your voice when using an iPad Pro. I write scripts for videos which I then narrate. The onboard iPad mic is simply too noisy. This one seems to filter out a good deal of soft background noise. Sirens outside my sixth floor window are still a problem but oh well. I utilize a free app - Voice Record Pro instead of MOTIV but that's because it offers an array of editing features including conversion to MP4, file attachment to Notes, speed adjustment and so on that are easy and intuitive. I paid around $5 or so to get the ad free version. The mic surprised me in a good way. I've bought a half dozen or so "professional" vocal mics in the past from AKG, Blue, and Neumann. And they're quite good. I expected this cheap USB iteration to be barely tolerable but better than the useless onboard mic. It surprised me. Other than buying my iPad Pro in the first place, this was a gratifying purchase in every way. Spoiler Alert: The tootsie rolls in the package are pretty cool too.

Great product

Better than digital recorder. This is the revolution. One problem is sometimes mic is not on for new iOS. I guess it will be fixed.

Great little microphone with big sound

I had been shopping for a high definition pocket recording solution for a long time. I previously had the 30-pin version of the Blue Mikey...the Shure MV88 blows the old Mikey away! I've done a few test of a full orchestra and one of a local blues band in a bar. Both recordings came out excellent. In the Motiv app, I used the 24-bit 48khz setting, turned on the limiter, turned off compression, and set the gain appropriately. The limiter did a great job of taming the highest peaks in a very transparent way, and saved the recordings from overload. So far, it seems that this microphone is more suited to recording loud live events, rather than quiet voiceovers in a quiet space. When I recorded a video of my son, I had to turn the gain all the way up, which created a pretty noisy result. Overall, I'm pleased with this...and I love that I have something that fits in my pocket that can create a respectable orchestra recording. School event recordings will never be the same. Highly recommended!

Excellent mic

Very high quality, super easy to use. Captured live music very well. App is straightforward to use and select patterns. Overall I'm thrilled with this mic.

Fantastic Mic

The reason I bought this mic over the others in its class is that it was made by Shure. I figured it would be better than just recording straight into my iPad Pro. I was completely blown away after I used this mic! It is so clean and sounds amazing. I've been recording my live shows and rehearsals with it and my band members can't believe how great the recordings sound and how well it picks things up. From the app, it records in WAV format but the app will also compress the files to other bit depths which then you can easily upload to dropbox, airdrop, or whatever. Makes it so easy for me to share with other band mates. Works in whatever app you want. I've been using it in iMovie, iReal Pro, and Auria pro. Wonderful! Only thing I wish is that the connector was just a little bit longer so I didn't have to take my iPad cover off to connect the mic. Even though my cover is about and 8th of an inch thick it inhibits the mic being attached. It may be a little more money than the other mics but trust me you'll be glad you spent it. A poor man can't afford cheap tools.

As soon as Shure released the MV88, I had to have one. Having a great quality iOS mic to use for taking video of my band practices has been amazing! So easy to use and the sound quality is phenomenal at this price.
