D-PRE discrete Class-A mic preamps deliver clean and natural sound

Nobody wants to hear mics that are plugged into thin, distorted, or underpowered preamps. MG Series mixing consoles employ Yamaha's transparent D-PRE preamps, which provide more power with lower impedance, delivering natural-sounding bass and smooth highs. D-PREs simply sound good - without hyping any specific elements of your mix. The D-PRE's pure sound will ensure that you won't need to spend hours EQ-ing just to get a barely-acceptable sound, like you would with low-quality mic preamps.

One-knob compressors provide easy-to-use dynamics control

When you're in the midst of a live event, you don't have time to tweak a large number of complex outboard units. To resolve this issue, the Yamaha MG Series of analog mixers features simple, time-saving one-knob compressors. Simply twist a single rotary control and you can dial in livelier guitars, punchier basses, tighter drums, and well-defined vocals.

EQ and highpass filter allow for effective sound-shaping

Whether you're tweaking your sound to perfection or whether you're removing some unwanted frequencies, effective and powerful EQ is necessary for building a successful mix. Featuring equalizers on all mono channels, the Yamaha MG Series mixing consoles provide you with ample control over the tonal balance of your mix. Additionally, a highpass filter allows you to get rid of any mud that might be present in your mix by eliminating unwanted low-frequency noise.

Built-in SPX digital effects add polish and professionalism

In order to add that final glue and polish to your mix, the Yamaha MG Series mixing consoles provides you with a comprehensive suite of 24 editable digital effects. Based on Yamaha's acclaimed SPX digital multi-effect processor, the MG Series delivers high-quality reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, and auto-wah, in addition to distortion, pitch effects, and more.

High quality op-amp ensures transparent sound reproduction

Here at Sweetwater, we know that few things will kill tone as quickly as sub-par op-amps. The Yamaha MG Series utilizes new, high-quality MG01 op-amps, ensuring that your mix sounds its best. When designing these op-amps, Yamaha focused on sound quality, rather than prioritizing electrical design and efficiency. Yamaha has always strived to deliver the purest possible signal instead of imparting their "signature" to your sound, and the MG Series is no exception. You can count on a transparent, natural, and articulate sound when you mix through a MG Series analog mixer.

Yamaha MG16XU Analog Mixer Features:
  • D-PRE mic preamps deliver clean, transparent, and natural sound
  • 3-band EQ on all mono channels for sound-shaping
  • 1-knob compressors provide straightforward dynamics control
  • Class-compliant USB 2.0 for recording and playback with computers and tablets
  • SPX effect processors provide you with a comprehensive suite of 24 effects
  • Pad switch on mono inputs for managing loud sources

Deliver a clean and professional-sounding mix with the Yamaha MG16XU analog mixer!

Excellent mixer

I bought this mixer for my community band, which had been using a 6-channel powered mixer for our PA system. We needed more mic inputs for our concerts, and this provided the right number and quality of mic inputs. The mic preamps are excellent, the whole mixer is very quiet and the features and controls are excellent. The ability to switch any channel on or off with the push of a button without having to turn the level up or down is excellent -- we'll be able to get the levels just right for each of our 8 mic positions (6 across the front of the band plus 1 for the emcee and 1 for the soloists) and then turn them on or off individually if we wish or turn the output from the whole board on or off as we need. The quality of the build is typical Yamaha excellence.

Great Mixer

I love the mixer. Sound is great, and the recording feature is bonus. For anyone buying this to record tracks, buy an audio interface instead. This is a mixer best intended for live performance. The USB recording feature is a nice extra to capture performances, but do not buy this if your primary intention is to record audio.

Yamaha Mixer

The product is first rate !!! As a singer/songwriter, I will be keeping myself very busy for quite some time with this investment ! Yes I wanted a mixer, but this mixer also came with a very good software download, Cubase 8, a virtual recording studio !!! The mixer I purchased is a 16 channel analog mixer with Dsp effects, and will be the keystone of my home studio, and rehearsal place, the quality of the unit and software is top shelf !!! I am able to record, and produce anything now !!! I'm just blown away !!!

Not a multitrack recording interface

Awesome board, however the USB feature is entirely useless. It only outputs in stereo over USB, so bringing a laptop or class-compliant USB device to record is overkill. It's the equivalent of getting a "board mix" rather than a multitrack session that could be later mixed. Oh well. I guess for the price, that would be too much functionality.
