Every Modulation Effect. All of Them.

With 12 modulation modes derived from the flagship MD-500 pedal, the BOSS MD-200 modulation pedal is one of the most comprehensive mod pedals you'll find. And with ample options for external control, including footswitches, expression pedal, and MIDI I/O, it can turn your pedalboard into a veritable sonic playground. You can even use the insert function to patch in drive pedals and other effects for pre- and post-modulation processing. When you're looking for a specific modulation effect, you don't need to wonder if the BOSS MD-200 pedal has it — it does.

Deep options, simple workflow

Even with a world of tonal shaping onboard, the BOSS MD-200 modulation pedal is equally suited for control freaks and the plug-and-play types of the world. The pedal's intuitive layout of top-mounted controls allows you to fine-tune your sound's depth, level, rate, and more. You're even able to save your custom presets with a few pushes of a button. But when it's time to go deeper, you'll find the bright display and vast menus urge you to conjure every tone you can dream up.

12 inspiring modulation effects

As awe-inspiring as they can be, many modulation effects are relegated to a couple of small moments in your band's set. Add all those little parts up and that's a lot of pedals eating up your unnecessarily heavy pedalboard. Or you can place the BOSS MD-200 on your board and have instant access to every mod tone out there. This makes the pedal an ideal partner for stage, studio, and home use. And you'll find everything from the warm analog-sounding choruses BOSS helped make famous to modern Slicer and Overtone effects.

BOSS MD-200 Modulation Pedal Features:

  • Modulation effects pedal with 12 classic modulation modes
  • Four memory slots allow you to save and instantly recall your own custom patches

Be all-end all box!
I've cleared out a ton of individual pedals with this box of magic. It does everything very well as do the DD and OD models. These are way more powerful than I'll ever need. I've been waiting for digital effects to catch up to analog and it's here. I'm a knob twiddler and don't go much past the surface of these and still highly recommend them. They've ended my G.A.S. for new pedals. No more constant rotation on my board.

Modulation Ecstasy
I have had several modulation pedals over the 40 years of my guitar playing. Chorus, Flangers, Phasers, Tremelos, etc. Never have I played two mod pedals at the same time. Never. Now that I have found this wonderful blue jewel, I now have the modulation pedal I have always wanted. One pedal, 12 different flavours of sonic wobble and spacey atmospheric fun, to eliminate the need to carry pedals that may get used once or twice a month. Boss has created and produced an amazing multi-mod stomp box that is not only outstanding sonically, but also clears space on the pedalboard for other pedals. Being a fan of both Rotary and Uni-Vibe effects, I was especially interested in trying those setting on the MD 200. Boss nailed it. The Rotary mode is simply incredible, and the Uni-Vibe is dead on accurate to the original. In fact there is a parameter tweek on the Uni-Vibe that adds fuzz to the mix and puts you into Hendrix territory. I call that my Jimi-Vibe setting. Two flavours each of Chorus and Phasers that are very useful. I had never used something like the Overtone mod. The MD 200 has this setting and lo and behold I have a new toy I like to play with. Each mod setting can be tweaked from subtle to outrageous, and everything in between. You can save favourite settings and recall them easily. I am stunned by the clarity of the effects and easy to use interface of such a all encompassing pedal as this. My shopping for modulation pedals has ceased. I have found my holy grail for these effects types. And it is a Boss, meaning it is close to kevlar bullet proof. At the risk of going more overboard with admiration for this pedal, I firmly believe that this is the greatest modulation pedal on the market ever.

Great value
If you even just think of it as a great reliable reverb. It's a good deal. Then add all the extras sounds no brainer. I especially like the tremolo and Leslie options.

Just what I wanted
I wanted to have a multi effect pedal that was easy to operate with good sounds. The Boss MD 200 filled the bill. I found the pedal very easy to understand and operate. I only needed modulation effects for the ambient music that I play. While there a plenty of deeper dive options, this pedal works very intuitively with just a quick glance at the manual. I especially like how the Tap Division button allow for quick, varied, and usable options for each setting. The Memory/Tap function is also easy to understand and quickly offers either Tap Tempos or switches to stored memory settings. I use Chorus and Tremelo settings the most, but I am enjoying the exploration into the other effects. The pedal size is also a plus. It's big enough to allow easy hands-on adjustments, yet still offers Memory recalls. I rarely do extensive programming of my effects. My main requirement for any pedal is that it sounds good right out of the box with little to no tweeking. The MD 200 achieved great sound right away in every setting. I am sure, I will get better and be willing to explore more advanced functionality, but for now it is a quick and satisfying addition to my board.

A great addition to modulate synthesizers
The MD-200 opens an entire new world of sonic features to my synthesizers. First of all, it took some time to get everything connected so that it works in a full stereo image. I finally managed this by connecting my MicroKorg through the MD-200 to a soundbar system with subwoofer so that the MD-200 L/R output is going into the 3.5 line input of my soundbar system. Might sound weird to studio pros but I use a Denon soundbar system which provides true stereo clarity in highs and mid tones and a sub bass without distortion. Okay, once I got into the details of each knob of the MD-200, the magic has begun to unfold. I just used the Overtone and Slicer and both effects alone are worth to buy this pedal. The Overtone adds kind of a flutish octave plus to my MicroKorg's strings, awesome! The slicer works like a kind of rhythm pattern generator, the sound pattern it creates comes close to what sounds like some of the older Vangelis tunes like Chariots of Fire and adding a second synth with a Blade Runner theme like sound, well, this is what I was exactly looking for. I also tested the phaser, U-Vibes, rotary, chorus, flanger, but for me the true winner here are the Overtone and Slicer. Especially the Slicer feature has become my kind of rhythm machine now. The tap function of the MD-200 works flawlessly. Still, synth players like myself should know that a synth provides a different impedance than what a guitar does. There was some frustration at that point when I connected my Peak through the MD-200 to the RCA inputs of my Edifier monitors. This did not work out at all, although I tried every cable and adapter and Y-splitter, the Peak's audio signal stays weak and it is audible in mono on one channel only. No idea why. However, with the MicroKorg and Denon soundbar system it finally all worked out. I've been playing for hours with the MD-200 and there is still plenty of room to discover new sonic features. Kudos go to Sweetwater Music who always take great care of my orders and who give valuable advice if needed.
