Condenser-like Performance with Dynamic Convenience

Promising condenser-like performance, the Telefunken M80 dynamic microphone lets you set a new standard for high-quality live performances. Unlike the midrange-heavy tone of many popular handheld mics, the M80 employs a low-mass capsule and ultra-thin membrane to capture every nuance of your performance with amazing balance and detail. And you'll get great results anywhere you go thanks to the custom-wound impedance-matching transformer. You don't need an expensive condenser mic to get studio-quality sound on stage - you need the Telefunken M80.

Telefunken M80 Dynamic Handheld Microphone at a Glance:
  • Specially-designed capsule gives the mic a wide, balanced response
  • Remarkably consistent sound no matter what you're plugging into
  • Clear, detailed sound is perfect for vocals or instruments
Specially-designed capsule gives the mic a wide, balanced response

Telefunken designed the M80's head and capsule to reduce the proximity effect created by the supercardioid polar pattern. That means your vocals won't get boomy or indistinct, yet you still get the feedback-fighting characteristics of a directional microphone.

Remarkably consistent sound no matter what you're plugging into

If you're a live performer, you know that it's tough to get a consistent sound every night when you're plugging into a different mixing board each time. Different microphone preamplifiers can operate at different impedance levels, and that affects the sound of your microphone. The Telefunken M80 sports an American made, custom wound transformer that automatically matches impedance, and that means your vocal sound will be consistent no matter what you're plugging into.

Clear, detailed sound is perfect for vocals or instruments

The diaphragm on the Telefunken M80 is super thin, which gives it a fast, un-colored response that captures your sound with incredible detail. Because it's not a midrange-heavy mic like some dynamic mics, it's not just for vocals. You can get great results with the M80 in front of a guitar amp, over a snare drum, or virtually any other instrument that needs a detailed, well-balanced microphone.

Telefunken M80 Dynamic Microphone Features:
  • Dynamic supercardioid microphone vocals, instruments, or percussion
  • Standard finish
  • Wide-ranging 50Hz-18kHz frequency response is perfect for both instruments and vocals
  • Low-mass capsule and diaphragm responds quickly to sound for clear, detailed reproduction
  • Capsule design reduces proximity effect so your sound doesn't become muddy or indistinct
  • Includes microphone clip and carrying bag
Legendary Telefunken sound can be yours with the M80 dynamic microphone!

Reviews

An Exceptional New Standard
I've worked in live sound for small to medium-sized venues for over a decade and have also served as a worship leader and director for even longer.

For years, my go-to mics have been the Shure SM58 and the Sennheiser e935/e945. They're dependable and still have their place. That said, I was genuinely blown away by the Telefunken M80. The detail and clarity are outstanding, and it quickly is becoming my go-to vocal mic.

Beyond the clarity, the biggest advantage I've noticed is how much easier it makes EQ and mixing. With the SM58, I often had to spend time shaping the EQ just to get my vocals to cut through the mix. With the M80, I can run it nearly flat and it's already about 85% of the way there. Any adjustments after that are mostly about personal preference rather than fixing problems in the mix.

The only caveat worth noting is that the M80 rewards good mic technique. Getting too close can increase the risk of plosives, but maintaining about 3–5 inches of distance results in excellent clarity and control. Even so, the benefits far outweigh the downside. With a little coaching on proper mic technique, vocalist will have no problem getting excellent results.
Me again 9 years later!
STILL my go to microphone since 2013. The reason I'm writing again is because I finally wore the grill off the microphone and had to order a replacement. I've been using this mic for 9 years, super happy, will use it for the rest of my career.
Music background: Pro musician since 1991
The sound guy was blown away!
I have been using an sm58 for 20 years. I inherited it from my dad who bought it in the 80s. I used it all over the USA and in Spain. It is super special to me but I needed something more. I tried out a ShureMV7+ hybrid I picked up for making videos and it was ok. I have used sm57s and some Sennheisers as well. My sound guy at church can make any mic sound decent. But I wanted something with more detail, clarity, and some high end sparkle that would sound great with my Blackstar Sonnet 120 and at any random venues with questionable sound guys and equipment. Also, a supercardioid dynamic mic with condenser quality sound is a plus for recording singer-guitarists who like to track both at the same time to reject some guitar bleeding into vocals.

I read lots of reviews and everything kept pointing to the Telefunken M80.

It has fully delivered.

I A B'd it with my SM58 and it was night and day. The Telefunken just had this crisp sound and the SM58 was dull and muffled in comparison.

My sound guy and I have a running joke cuz I am guilty of tinkering with my pedals and eq and so he gives me a hard time about always having to retune to the room. I used the mic this morning and was expecting to catch some grief for changing things up again. But after the worship set he texted me that the mic sounds awesome (he never compliments my tones). He showed me the board and he had completely reset the eq and simply did a small cut at 600 hz and it was gold. I used it at a Cowboy Church service last night with my solo acoustic rig, just hit the scoop button and dropped the mids and it sounded fantastic!

I truly feel it has helped me sing better because I can hear myself cut through the mix which allowed me to make better decisions with my vocal delivery/ mic distance. I realized I had gotten sloppy with my technique but I wasn't always hearing it in the live context. I knew I was on pitch so I left it at that. But now that I can hear it cut through so much better I am falling in love with singing again ( I am mainly a guitar player.)

All that being said, I am a baritone. I don't know how it would sound with female vocals, it could be "too bright." But if you are ready to upgrade your live dynamic mic I would highly recommend the Telefunken M80!

The heirloom Shure Sm58 will always be my backup, but this will be my go to mic for live sound for now. Can't wait to try recording!
Music background: Worship Pastor, wedding singer-guitarist. Also banjo, bass, harmonica and uke.
Ruggedness meets Audio Bliss
My Sweetwater Rep Nich recommended these to me two years ago, so I purchased them. First these things are built like a tank! Seen one fall after the mike stand. It was on got tipped over it landed right on the windscreen I thought for sure. My new microphone was gonna be dented in and I would have to order a new windscreen when I picked it up off the ground it still looked brand new Not a scratch for dent. Audio quality. Is exceptional. It will put you in mind of the old Shure SM58 when they were made in America. These Telefunken M 80s are made in the USA! Two of my musician buddies like them so well that they bought their own. I use them in live performance for many genres of music and I also use them for different things in my home studio I would highly recommend these for your live performances Denver
Music background: Grew up in a musical family playing Bluegrass and Country. Fell in love with Blues and Rock at age 12. I play keyboards, guitars and bass banjo mandolin dobro I also sing lead and harmony vocals for 10 years of my life, I lived in Nashville, Tennessee a
Love it
