Condenser-like Performance, Compact Dynamic Convenience

Boasting a sleek, lightweight design and bolstered by vibration-damping technology, the Telefunken M80-SH sets an impressive benchmark for low-profile dynamic microphones. The M80-SH’s low-mass capsule, joined by an ultra-thin membrane, captures every nuance of your performance with exceptional balance and condenser-like detail. Additionally, a custom-wound impedance-matching transformer maximizes power transfer from the mic to your preamp, delivering a stronger signal — even over long cable runs. Moreover, its compact form factor makes it the go-to mic for tight-fit applications, such as drum- and amp-miking duties, as well as for vocal positions for drummers and keyboard players. Beyond that, the M80-SH’s potent SPL handling and unrivaled off-axis rejection certify top-caliber performance with extra-loud sound sources with minimal unwanted leakage. Designed and hand-assembled in the USA, the M80-SH includes a space-saving right-angle XLR cable, plastic mount, and rugged zip pouch.

Work the mic without working against it

Telefunken engineered the M80-SH’s head and capsule to actively counteract the proximity effect inherent to supercardioid polar patterns, so working close to the mic keeps your vocals tight and articulate rather than thick and muddy. You get all the focused directionality and feedback rejection that a live performance demands, without sacrificing clarity when it matters most.

Consistent sound no matter what you’re plugged into

At Sweetwater, we know that every mixing board hits differently. After all, varying preamp impedance levels from venue to venue can quietly undermine your microphone’s performance, shifting tone, dulling transients, and robbing you of the sound you’ve dialed in. The M80-SH eliminates that variable with a custom-wound, American-made transformer that automatically matches impedance to whatever board you’re plugging into. Night after night, city after city, your vocal sound remains stable and steady.

The multi-tool your mic locker is missing

The M80-SH’s ultra-thin diaphragm delivers a fast, transparent response, capturing transient detail and nuance that thicker diaphragms simply can’t. Unlike many dynamics that color the source with a pronounced midrange push, the M80-SH presents your sound with pristine purity. That honesty is what makes it a genuine multi-tool, perfect for articulate, open capture in front of a guitar amp, securing every crack and snap of a snare drum, and letting the performance speak for any sound source that demands accuracy.

Telefunken M80-SH Features:

  • Dynamic supercardioid mic for vocals, instruments, or percussion
  • Sleek, lightweight design bolstered by vibration-damping technology
  • Wide-range 50Hz–18kHz frequency response is ideal for both instruments and vocals

  • Includes a right-angle XLR cable, plastic mount, and zip pouch

Reviews

A Great Alternative to the SM57/58
I have been using SM57s for decades, but I wanted to try something new on my snare drums. After going through Sweetwater's exhaustive snare drum mic shootout, I really liked the sound of the Telefunken M80... it just had a much more natural sound with a more open top end. The fact that its a small-body mic and includes a couple of mounting clips and a really nice right-angle XLR cable sold me!

After recording with this mic for several months, I am very happy with the way my snare drums are sounding. I really don't need much, if any EQ on the way in, and much less in the mix to pull out what I want. Its a very different experience than what I am used to with a 57!

I can't wait to try this on guitar cabinets!

Singing Drummer...
Great mic for the singing drummer. Sure, it works very well on a snare but the short handle works great for an overhead set up. It's become my "go to" vocal tool. A gamble that's become a very pleasant surprise. Remember, a mic can be your best friend or your worst enemy. For my baritone voice, the M80-SH has become one of my best friends.

Short M-80
I have several full size M80's and they sound great. I have a deep voice and the M80 has very little proximity effect so when you are singing close to the mic it doesn't sound boomy, has good clarity. Now the Short M80 sounds great too and it can fit in the storage compartment of my guitar case so I can carry the mic, a mic cable, a guitar cable and guitar in the same case…maybe Telefunken can make the SH in colors like the full size M80.

DUDE! Just… DUDE!!!
What an exceptional mic! It's like a perfect blend of everything you like from a condenser mic and a dynamic mic in one. I was using a Shure Beta98AMP on my snare, for the ease of positioning & added sensitivity of a condenser, I switched to this mic without even telling anybody, and right after soundcheck, the guitar player immediately said "Whatever snare you brought today is my new favorite!", and several drummer buddies at the gig asked me after the first set "what did you do different to your snare? I love it!" Fun fact: if you're a singing drummer that has an issue with a mic on a stand getting in the way, this would be a great choice for an exceptional sounding vocal mic while minimizing the bulk of a regular mic in front of your face. ;)
