Condenser-like Performance with Dynamic Convenience

Promising condenser-like performance, the Telefunken M80 dynamic microphone lets you set a new standard for high-quality live performances. Unlike the midrange-heavy tone of many popular handheld mics, the M80 employs a low-mass capsule and ultra-thin membrane to capture every nuance of your performance with amazing balance and detail. And you'll get great results anywhere you go thanks to the custom-wound impedance-matching transformer. You don't need an expensive condenser mic to get studio-quality sound on stage - you need the Telefunken M80.

Telefunken M80 Dynamic Handheld Microphone at a Glance:
  • Specially-designed capsule gives the mic a wide, balanced response
  • Remarkably consistent sound no matter what you're plugging into
  • Clear, detailed sound is perfect for vocals or instruments
Specially-designed capsule gives the mic a wide, balanced response

Telefunken designed the M80's head and capsule to reduce the proximity effect created by the supercardioid polar pattern. That means your vocals won't get boomy or indistinct, yet you still get the feedback-fighting characteristics of a directional microphone.

Remarkably consistent sound no matter what you're plugging into

If you're a live performer, you know that it's tough to get a consistent sound every night when you're plugging into a different mixing board each time. Different microphone preamplifiers can operate at different impedance levels, and that affects the sound of your microphone. The Telefunken M80 sports an American made, custom wound transformer that automatically matches impedance, and that means your vocal sound will be consistent no matter what you're plugging into.

Clear, detailed sound is perfect for vocals or instruments

The diaphragm on the Telefunken M80 is super thin, which gives it a fast, un-colored response that captures your sound with incredible detail. Because it's not a midrange-heavy mic like some dynamic mics, it's not just for vocals. You can get great results with the M80 in front of a guitar amp, over a snare drum, or virtually any other instrument that needs a detailed, well-balanced microphone.

Telefunken M80 Dynamic Microphone Features:
  • Dynamic supercardioid microphone vocals, instruments, or percussion
  • Black finish, black grille
  • Wide-ranging 50Hz-18kHz frequency response is perfect for both instruments and vocals
  • Low-mass capsule and diaphragm responds quickly to sound for clear, detailed reproduction
  • Capsule design reduces proximity effect so your sound doesn't become muddy or indistinct
  • Includes microphone clip and carrying bag
Legendary Telefunken sound can be yours with the M80 dynamic microphone!
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Finally Perfect After Thousands of $$$ on Mics

This mic is quite amazing. (Finally!) As a solo acoustic performer demanding the very best in equipment and sound I've spent around $ (probably more) in search of the perfect mic for ME. From the Neumann KMS105 to the Shure SM58 and everything in between. The Telefunken M80 finally hit the sweet spot of sweet spots for me. The clarity is astounding and shines through with even more gain before feedback than my Audix OM-5. (which is a lot!) All the reviews speaking of how everything opens up is true. It's as if a pillow has been taken off my vocals that were already very well projecting. The ONLY obvious I had to deal with are the very, very pronounced plosives. To my delight I purchased the Isovox Isopop Broadcast Filter (the cylinder shaped one) with fingers crossed and a rabbits foot in my pocket for good luck. It championed the plosives with NO loss of clarity whatsoever even up very lip close. I am quite impressed! My fear was it would not work as the isopop filter is made more for Broadcast Mics like the Shure SM7B. But it fit very accurately and securely on the M80. An extra $ well worth the investment. (I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to tame those P's and B's) Note: The pic here is of the M80 with the Isopop Filter mounted on the mic. The Isopop Filter wouldn't work as a handheld, but is perfect and has a quite professional look mounted on a stand.

Acoustically some ballad and softer songs requires me to be super up close while soft. Most Cardioids, Supercardioids, and Hypercardioids tend to get muddy as you get that lip-touching close in. Not this one. Still nice and warm on bottom but clear as a bell with no muddy whatsoever. It is of course at it's best when you are almost lip touch close but still also captures the voice very well when it is backed away just a bit. Just stay away from the sides or too far back and it will all come through fine.

The mic is well built, hefty in weight and looks great on my stand with the Isovox Filter as well. I realize it is hard to purchase mics based on reviews and opinions because every voice is different and will respond differently with different mics. But I felt this one deserved for me to put the "Wow" into words. If clarity, quality, and tons of gain before feedback is at the top of your requirements list.......this is a great mic that also won't break the bank to give a shot.

MUST HAVE MIC
I wasn't familiar with this brand till I told my sales rep, Zach, at Sweetwater what my demands were and he insisted I try the Telefunken M80 because of my vocal range and it's frequency range. Was he ever right!! The compliments, clarity, and power of the Telefunken M80 has given me the confidence to sing as never before!!

Excellent experience and quality.
Finest vocal mic I have used. Thanks Aaron..

Great mic
I was a die hard Beta 58 user for over a decade. I decided to give this mic a try when I noticed that Goose was using them. I was blown away. This mic sounds fuller, clearer, over all just better in every meaningful way for a singer. I strongly recommend this mic to churches and bands who want powerful vocals.
Music background: Semi professional
It does what it says
This mic cuts through the mix. Same singer, me, same day same mic stand, used this vs a sure beta and this is just clearer. Some lows are eliminated and the high mids ring out, and you got make sure you aim your vocals at it or they'll drop away to nothing, but sure as hell, you can hear the vocals better and with less effort in a live situation. Will buy again and again and ....you get the picture
Buy it
