Use Space as an Instrument

With the number of delay and reverb FX on the market, the obvious question arises: what makes the Waves Lofi Space plug-in so special? Most reverb/delay FX are about building out into space — in the case of this plug-in, however, space truly becomes an instrument, creating warm and distinct textures that go beyond traditional effects. Lofi Space is a streamlined tool that allows you to harness the ineffable character of rich, vintage, analog forms of delay and reverb that really make a moment stand out — in other words, those ear-candy moments that wow you into asking, “What is it that makes that sound so interesting?” Waves provides a straightforward way to add that analog flavor to your sound, giving you enough control and versatility to make it your own, without getting lost in the details.

Reverb redux

Part of what makes this plug-in so fun for us at Sweetwater is the way it masterfully pares down controls to minimize clutter without losing focus — it’s an intentional effect. This saturated reverb functions in two major, analog-based modes: spring and plate reverb. Each type results in a unique, vintage-sounding color that can be dialed in with the “length” and “level” knobs.

Enchanting echo aesthetics

The second part of Lofi Space’s delay dyad is the echo section. Individual control for “time,” “feedback,” and “level” are coupled with a stereo ping-pong delay toggle. Supplementing this is a delay sync to bpm, host, or milliseconds. Modify any of these functions for an oomph all your own.

Completing the circuit

Lofi Space allows you to run the echo and reverb sections independently or together, along with a master set of controls. Highpass and lowpass filters let you dial in the frequency of the effect, along with a dedicated “mono” knob, allowing you to slim down your mix from full stereo to mono. Lastly, an overall mix knob defines how much of the overall effect is in the channel, with a dedicated lock mode for safe mixing. When you consider all of this alongside your reverb and echo functions, it becomes clear that you’re opening a near-unlimited number of permutations, ensuring the space you carve out is something all your own.

Waves Lofi Space Plug-in Features:

  • Streamlined UI to help you get the most out of your FX
  • Autonomous control of reverb and echo functions provides versatility in application
  • Dedicated “spring” and “plate” reverb modes deliver distinct sonic textures
  • Comprehensive delay control includes sync to bpm, host, and milliseconds, along with ping-pong toggle to ensure flexible implementation
  • Master controls allow you to refine frequency and stereo presence
  • Mix knob with dedicated lock mode means dialing in your FX to exactly where you need them to be in the mix

Since the early days of DAW software, Waves has been a dominating force in music and audio production. For those of us here at Sweetwater who've been recording since the industry switched over to computer-based studios, it's impossible to imagine sessions without L series Ultramaximizers, MaxxBass, and other staples. Since then, we've been impressed every time Waves has brought top producers such as Jack Joseph Puig and Chris Lord-Alge to Sweetwater to show off their next cutting-edge creations, and Waves is constantly adding new and innovative plug-ins to their catalog. And with cool new gear such as their SoundGrid series, Sweetwater engineers have discovered just how easy it is to use Waves plug-ins live.
