Sweetwater Sales Engineers often recommend Fat '50s pickups to guitarists seeking authentic-sounding vintage Strat tone. These pickups deliver bright and clear cleans with the perfect amount of midrange with bite. When you plug your Fender Custom Shop Michael Landau Signature 1968 Relic Stratocaster into your favorite tube amplifier, you'll find everything from smooth mellow tones to outrageously aggressive leads, all within a casual twist of a volume knob.
The Relic treatment gives you real-deal visuals
Relic'd Fender Custom Shop axes are among the most popular instruments in Sweetwater's Guitar Gallery, and it's easy to see why. Fender's aging artisans start with a period-correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and then expertly distress it to achieve a vibe indistinguishable from an actual vintage guitar. The difference, of course, is that these exceptional guitars sport state-of-the-art electronics and play like butter. With the Fender Custom Shop Michael Landau Signature 1968 Relic Stratocaster, you get the best of both worlds.
Hand-selected tonewoods give you the sound and feel you demand
Since Fender's early days, ash and alder have played a major role in defining the sound of the Strat. These lightweight and highly resonant woods give your sound the natural definition, clarity, and punch you expect. The extremely lightweight, hand-picked alder body the Fender Custom Shop selected for this Michael Landau Signature 1968 Relic Stratocaster takes all of these qualities to the next level, delivering a guitar that's both more comfortable and more expressive than a typical Strat. Add to that the Fender Custom Shop Michael Landau Signature 1968 Relic Stratocaster's smooth-playing maple neck with a custom oval-shaped neck, and you have a classic axe built to go well beyond modern performance standards.
