Beautiful drum
Spruce is a new shell material for me, i have to say i really enjoy this drum. It is not a very loud drum, not bright and i find has a wide tuning range. The stock skins are great, however everyone's tastes differ and the drum overall is beautiful. Nice drum for a full back beat.

Know what it is
This snare is incredible. But you should know what you're buying before you buy it. This is not a beat-the-crap-out-of-it loud cutting snare. This is an incredibly warm and musical drum that lends itself to quieter and more moderate playing situations. It loves to be recorded, and it loves a single ply head. If you're a heavy hitter or want something loud that's gonna CUT, I would not recommend this snare. If you've already got one or a few snares and you want a new voice for your arsenal I can't recommend this snare ENOUGH. it's incredibly sensitive and warm. If you finesse it you'll be in love with it. It's my go-to recording snare for most of my sessions.

A great snare!
The designers at Tama hit a home run with the Fat Spruce snare. Spruce is a softer, less dense wood than the hardwoods traditionally used for snare drums. It has a natural lower fundamental tone. I was looking for a different snare sound, something lower and fatter and the idea of a spruce snare caught my attention. I decided to take a chance and was really surprised by the sound. I play smaller venues and the Fat Spruce is a perfect fit. The quality of the drum is very good for the price point. The finish, the hardware and the heads all work together very well. If you're looking for a different sound to add to your snare collection, you may be surprised also by the Fat Spruce snare.
