A Premium Acoustic-electric Guitar From Yamaha

Yamaha's LL16D acoustic-electric guitar brings premium materials and craftsmanship together with intricate abalone inlays for a great-sounding and eye-catching guitar. Continuing in the legacy of Yamaha's L Series, the LL16D sports a hand-selected, solid Engelmann spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides for a rich, warm sound. An ultra-stable 5-ply mahogany/rosewood neck and ebony fretboard are smooth and sleek. The slimmer neck shape and an enhanced fingerboard edge gives the LL16D a feel and playability you'll love. A passive SRT Zero Impact Pickup uses six separate elements to detect each string and give you authentic plugged-in tones. The Yamaha LL16D gives amazing playability and killer tone in a premium acoustic-electric guitar.

Innovative construction to build a better guitar

The great tone and smooth playability of the LL16D are due to Yamaha's never-ending search for perfection. The recently developed A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) process gives your guitar a broken-in and aged tone. By controlling the atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity, the molecular properties of the wood are manipulated to mirror those of a guitar that has been played for years. Each L Series guitar also sports a modified non-scalloped bracing that enhances the guitars low end. And the 5-ply mahogany/rosewood neck, after re-evaluation of string height and spacing, has a new design for improved playability. The Yamaha LL16D utilizes newly developed advances in guitar construction to bring you an amazingly playable and great-sounding instrument.

Hand-selected Spruce top for great tone

Sweetwater knows that the choice of top wood can have a strong effect the sound of an acoustic guitar. For the LL16D, Yamaha chose a premium, hand-selected solid Engelmann spruce top. Chosen as much for its look as its tone, solid spruce has a well-rounded, articulate sound with excellent projection. Its rosewood back and sides provide exceptional bass and powerful projection. And because it's a solid-wood top, the tone will age gracefully, with enhanced harmonics and greater tonal balance as the years go by.

A full-range passive pickup system

The passive SRT Zero Impact Pickup was designed by Yamaha to deliver a faithful reproduction of the LL16D's natural, dynamic sound. It was also designed to minimize the impact on the guitars looks and tone. The passive design doesn't use a bulky preamp that's routed into the body to hamper the instrument's look or resonance. Each string has its own piezoelectric element for a full-sounding and accurate sound. Because this is a passive pickup system, you'll need to use an external preamp when you want to plug in the Yamaha LL16D.

Yamaha LL16D Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • Innovative guitar design gives you an amazing-playing and sounding instrument
  • Hand-selected solid Engelmann spruce top with and solid rosewood back and sides provide rich tone and projection
  • Intricate abalone inlay on the body, headstock, and rosette
  • A.R.E. process molecularly "ages" the wood to match guitars that have been played for years
  • 5-ply mahogany/rosewood neck has been redesigned for today's guitar player
  • Updated non-scalloped bracing pattern delivers a fuller low-end
  • Passive SRT Zero Impact pickup uses individual piezo elements for each string
  • Hardshell case included
Yamaha's updated LL16D offers exceptional playability and tone.

Breathtaking

I love Yamaha guitars. I own a few alongside my Taylors and Martins. I had been on the fence about this beauty for a while. Not because of it's price but because I was 'overstocked' as my wife puts it. Well, I ordered it anyway and it showed up yesterday. WOW.... The inlays are amazing, the action is great and the overall feel of this Yammie is solid...... As for the sound.... makes my Martin HD35 blush. Deep, crisp and even. Bass, mid and treble all even across the board. Then I plugged it in..... yup, still sounds like a $3000 guitar. Just amazing. A big shout out to Kurt and staff at Sweetwater. The setup was perfection..... the guitar was still in tune when it arrived and was packed to withstand a meteor impact.....

An amazing guitar.

I bought this guitar in Nov last year and have played it sparingly up to now. The guitar has an amazing tone and lots of volume unplugged, and the neck is real nice after I lowered the action about 3/32". The passive pickup sounded ok plugged in but wasn't practical for stage with no vol control. I fixed that today by installing a Baggs Anthem system in the Yamaha. Now the unplugged and the plugged in sound of this guitar both blow me away. This will be my stage acoustic from now on. My Martin and my Gibson will be staying at home.

Better than my D42 or 000-42

I bought this guitar several months ago, and wanted to put it through several sets of strings before writing a review. I tend to like Monel strings for my vintage Martin D-42 but found they were not right on the Yamaha. After trying four different sets of strings and wearing all four sets out, I restrung my vintage Martin and the Yamaha LL16D with identical sets for an honest evaluation. I used top quality Ph. Bronze. Sadly, the LL16 blew my vintage Martin D42 away. It also embarrassed a new Martin M35 and a 000-42. While its terrific to now own a camp guitar that is awesome, I am a bit annoyed to have $10,000.00 worth of guitars sitting in cases and not being played. This is the best sounding guitar I've played in 35 years, the only two better were a 1910 Washburn and an early Guild F50, both long gone. For the money it is like getting a free high end Martin or Taylor and only paying the interest on the financing. Oh, and Mark Chapman was absolutely great help getting the guitar to me. A wonderful guy, So 5 stars plus, plus.

Absolutely Fantastic

Let me just say that this one of the best acoustic guitars for the money that you will get anywhere, I've played guitars that cost 3 times as much and this one plays and sounds better, I know that people have a tendency to say that because they purchased it but its 100% true with this one, I've owned this for a little over a month and spent much time trying to find a flaw with it and could not, the sound quality is amazing, cosmetically beautiful and even though it has a passive pickup, plugged in, it still is in a league of it's own and of course Sweetwater always does a awesome job with it's inspection and shipping

Amazing instrument

Great tone right out of the box. Plays like butter with no adjustment needed. The ARE is the real deal. Thank you Mr. Israel Foster for you hard work and attention to customer-based details.

Sweetwater Advice

Yamaha LL16D ARE

Subjected to open cowboy chords, the LL16D ARE reveals itself as fairly loud, bright, and responsive. While it may lack the powerful bottom end of the best dreadnoughts, it has good tonal balance and strong projection and sustain....
