A Technology-loaded Powered PA Speaker

The LD Systems ICOA 12 A is a terrific all-around powered PA speaker that can tackle full-range, satellite, and stage monitor duties with equal aplomb. Armed with a 1,200-watt Class D power amp, the ICOA 12 A churns out a 126dB maximum SPL. Its 12-inch woofer and 1-inch coaxial tweeter yield a 50Hz–20kHz frequency response, and its patent-pending, BEM-optimized, rotating CD horn offers flexible use in both vertical and horizontal orientations. The ICOA 12 A's baked-in DynX DSP ensures distortion-free sound, even with the volume cranked, and you get four application presets, a 3-band EQ, and a delay line function. This outstanding loudspeaker also houses two mic/line input channels with individual gain controls and a mono mix output. You'll also appreciate the ICOA 12 A's dual-tilt stand attachment, which facilitates 0- and 5-degree tilt angles, along with a 55-degree monitor angle. Comprehensive protection circuits and a shock-resistant front grille round out the ICOA 12 A's robust feature set.

Flexible design

The ICOA 12 A features a super-flexible design that projects enough room-shaking bass from its woofer, loaded with a rotating horn, to satisfy the needs of musicians, bands, and DJs alike — no subwoofer required. That said, the ICOA 12 A performs admirably in satellite applications when paired with a sub. Furthermore, you can also orient the ICOA 12 A horizontally as part of a suspended system or on the floor as a stage monitor.

State-of-the-art DynX DSP

Thanks to the LD Systems ICOA 12 A's proprietary DynX DSP, you can expect dynamic, high-resolution sound across the entire frequency spectrum, along with distortion-free performance — even at maximum volume. The ICOA 12 A also includes four intuitive sound presets and a 3-band EQ for fast, user-friendly sound adjustment. When we ran the ICOA 12 A through its paces here at Sweetwater, we were especially impressed with its delay line function, which compensates for distances up to 32 feet.

Easy to deploy

Deploying the ICOA 12 A is an intuitive affair, thanks to its flexible, roadworthy design. You get two line/mic input channels with individual gain controls, along with a mono mix output, enabling you to connect a variety of signal sources. The ICOA 12 A's shock-resistant front grille and 55-degree horizontal angle optimize it for stage monitor applications. Moreover, when you position the loudspeaker vertically, its 36mm dual-tilt stand attachment gives you the choice of a 0- or 5-degree tilt angle to optimize its performance in any acoustic environment. You also get six M10 fly points and four aluminum handles for simplified installation and transport.

Reviews

Super Smooth
Beautiful sounding speakers. I bought 2. No shrill. Voices, brass, pianos and bass are present and clear. Great value for the price range. I bought the 15" sub too but might not be necessary since these have great bass, even in the 12" size. I've only run Spotify from an iPad as a test. I'll try a band through these in the small P.A. rig I'm building. I hope these are rugged enough for small club band gigs. They seem very well built and not hollow like some budget speakers. They aren't light but the mass may also contribute to the smoothness of their sound. I may use one for my keyboard rig when the band has hired sound. I sent a first batch of different brand powered speakers back, I'm keeping these.

Mind blowing
Unbelievable sound from this speaker. I've tried them all and this thing exceeded them all. The clearest and deepest sound from a powered 12 inch you're going to get. Unparalleled options as well from the coaxial design. Well done LD Systems.

Speaker Balance

We have a pair of these we use for small production and DJ setups. These cabinets have good sound coverage for the price. They also have a delay function which is nice if needed for fills. Reason for the 4 star is the speakers sound different from each other. No matter the preset settings. We have to manually adjust the eq settings to get the sound of each speaker to be the same. I have reached out to LD and really never got an explanation to why. Once they are tuned the same, they have excellent sound. My only other issues is these speakers are really heavy.

Awesome, even at today's prices
I bought a pair of these years ago back before they were a well known brand in the US... They punch well above their class in terms of sound, dsp, and quality construction. Only downside is they are heavy, but thats a direct result of being well made so I'll take it. The coaxial design really does make a difference of using them as floor monitors at close range.
Solid all-around performer
After researching line arrays and other flyable cabinets for a theater project I was involved in, I determined these were the best for the budget. Solid low end, retains intelligibility even at high levels (though I would recommend using high pass filtering to avoid muddying the sound up or using supplementary subwoofers), and fills out the venue with little issue. Using the included DSP can help bring sound into line, even without a signal processor. Having the ability to rotate the HF horn is a benefit as you won't experience the "high and narrow" dispersion pattern most other vertically oriented monitors tend to provide, allowing you to put the sound right where performers expect it to be.
