An Acoustic-electric for Solidbody Aficionados

The Sire Larry Carlton G5A is a solidbody acoustic-electric guitar tailor-made for electric guitar players seeking splendid acoustic sound. The G5A brandishes a chambered mahogany body with a solid spruce top and acoustic guitar strings. A VIVIDX-A preamp and under-saddle piezo pickup translate this guitar's inherent resonance into a sweet-sounding plugged-in acoustic guitar tone that you can shape to perfection with a built-in 3-band EQ. The G5A boasts a comfortable "C"-shaped mahogany neck and an easy-playing rosewood fingerboard with smooth rolled edges. You also get a Sire acoustic bridge and vintage-style open-gear tuning machines. Electric guitar players searching for a rock-solid stage acoustic will feel right at home with the Sire G5A.

Solid mahogany body and spruce top

The G5A's chambered mahogany body yields a warm, resonant acoustic tone that's enhanced beautifully by its solid spruce top. Mahogany and spruce are a time-tested acoustic guitar tonewood combo, giving this solidbody acoustic-electric guitar an authoritative voice that's guaranteed to command attention. That said, the G5A's slim, lightweight shape will feel instantly familiar to guitarists who spend most of their time with a solidbody electric guitar.

State-of-the-art active electronics

When you plug the Sire G5A in, its amplified tone sounds much like a traditional acoustic-electric guitar. Its active VIVIDX-A preamp and under-saddle piezo pickup deliver a rich, sweet-sounding acoustic sound with plenty of detail and articulation. Sweetwater gigging guitarists are big fans of the G5A's preamp, which includes a 3-band EQ for shaping your sound. Furthermore, we've found the G5A to be one of the most feedback-resistant acoustic-electric guitars we've ever plugged in.

Super-playable neck and fingerboard

Players of all stripes will appreciate the ample playability of the G5A's "C"-shaped mahogany neck, which is sagaciously mated to a 22-fret, 16-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard with smooth rolled edges. The G5A flaunts vintage-style open-gear tuners that provide rock-solid, slip-free tuning stability.

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!

Reviews

Best Acoustic for Playing Out
This now my fourth Sire Larry Carlton and it does not disappoint. The build quality and finish are top notch. Set up is great, I just put 10 ga. D'Addario XS phosphor bronze strings on. Action is nice and low with no buzz, and the neck feels more like an electric with a 16" radius. Good looking Rosewood fretboard with easy to see abalone dot markers. Perhaps the best part is how resonant the chambered mahogany body is, with plenty of sustain. Controls are straight forward, and phase switch does make a difference. It does not have a tuner, but I have one on my pedalboard so I don't miss it.
So far I love all my Sire guitars - I also have the U2 short-scale bass. The only downside is the wait time, as they are making them as fast as they can without compromising quality. I highly recommend you get yours on order.
What a fantastic guitar!
My Sire G5A tobacco sunburst acoustic guitar is the acoustic/ Electric guitar that I've been looking for 30 years. The sound, the aesthetic, and the playability all really good right out of the box. I'm running through a Fender acoustic Pro amplifier, and a TC Helicon impulse response loader, and it sounds like a high-end acoustic guitar. Smoothest neck of any acoustic guitar I've ever owned. This will now be my go-to guitar for all my gigs. Thanks to Matthew Lamarche and Sweetwater for there always excellent service!
Music background: Pro musician, rock and roll choir director
THE acoustic/electric for the gigging guitarist.
This might be the ultimate acoustic/electric if you are playing out on a regular basis. Absolutely pristine acoustic sound, and I am currently using a Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb amp, DI'd to the board. The EQ on this guitar is straight forward and intuitive. I would normally like an on-board tuner, but the guitar is so thin I don't know where they would put it. I'm wireless straight to my pedalboard, and the first pedal is a tuner anyway. As is typical for any Sire guitar, no adjustments were required right out of the box. I did change to 9 gauge strings because that's what I'm used to. I love it being light weight, as I am constantly changing guitars, and there being no sound hole, there's no worry about feedback. This is my 5th Sire guitar, and as long as they keep innovating, I will keep buying. Build quality is way above their price point, and fit and finish is the best. I would recommend this guitar.
Music background: Started playing in 1964. God I'm old.
New Sire G5A

well I received my G5A from sweetwater a few days ago, first let me just say that Sweetwater is just fantastic. I order from them all the time. Ok back to guitar. Received it, was packaged great, no damage at all. Action was a bit high and strings were a little thick for me, so lowered the action and changed strings. All I can say is, it sounds really close to my acoustic, but a brighter sound. Fingerboard is great, smooth as can be, and electronics work flawlessly. The only bummer is no one makes a hard shell case for it, not even Sire, i got in contact with them. They only have a gig bag.
