Overdrive to Fuzz with a Built-in Clean Boost

With four distinct overdrive settings and a built-in boost, JHS's The Kilt overdrive boost pedal is a multi-tool of tone. Developed with Delirious? guitarist Stu G, this pedal covers a massive range of sonic territory from clean boost to slight overdrive to heavily gated fuzz and everything in between. JHS threw in their Mini Bomb Boost as a separate effect to use by itself or in conjunction with the overdrive tones for massive sound. The Order switch lets you choose whether the overdrive section or boost section is first in the chain. Add a versatile overdrive/boost pedal to your pedalboard with JHS's The Kilt.

JHS The Kilt Overdrive Boost Pedal at a Glance:
  • Combine dual gain controls to create your signature sound
  • Deploy your secret weapon: clean boost
  • JHS pedals are handcrafted tone machines
Combine dual gain controls to create your signature sound

Developed in cooperation with Christian guitarist Stu G (Delirious?), JHS's The Kilt overdrive/boost pedal goes from clean boost to mild overdrive to all out fuzz in no time. The G1 and G2 switches let you dial in your preferred amount of gain. Dial in low gain settings for classic rock and vintage-inspired tones or go for a heavily gated fuzz with unexpected artifacts and sputtering or, of course, anything in between. The Low Cut toggle tapers off the bass response of The Kilt. When you need a versatile overdrive with tons of tones and a boost feature, you'll appreciate JHS's The Kilt pedal!

Deploy your secret weapon: clean boost

JHS's The Kilt has a JFET clean boost section for your guitar. The built-in Mini Bomb Boost (a popular JHS boost pedal) is extremely useful to have in your rig. Keep it on all the time to hit your tube amp harder, or kick it in just when you need to cut through the mix with added presence. Place it before your distortion/overdrive section for a stronger, thicker, more saturated tone. Place it after for tone that's the same, only louder. Sweetwater guitarists know that the ability to hit your amp with just the right level is an important ingredient in great guitar tone. When you need a wide rage of distortion tones and a musical clean boost, you'll appreciate the dual functionality of JHS's The Kilt pedal!

JHS pedals are handcrafted tone machines

When you plug your guitar into a JHS pedal like The Kilt, you're tapping into care and passion that few manufacturers put into their products. Each JHS pedal is handbuilt and tested by the JHS team in Kansas City, Missouri. Because they design their pedals for specific musical purposes, we're sure there's a JHS pedal that's perfect for any player's rig.

Absolute Best!

I've always had a place in my heart for Stu G for his contributions to the soundtrack of my life. When I saw he had a signature pedal I knew it was a must have AND I AM NOT DISAPOINTED! Talk about flexibility- this thing is the perfect 2nd-stage drive with amazing tonal and gain options. With a simple flip of the switch you can get crunch, overdrive, distortion, or fuzz. This thing allows you to put your volume boost before or after your gain as well as bass-cut to stay out of the way of your bass player. In my opinion, all other overdrive/distortion pedals should just pack up and go home. Thanks Stu and JHS!

Buy it now!

I know this is a pedal review so I'll be brief on this. Without GEARFEST I would have never looked at this pedal. I had my mind set on another brand but my sales engineer Mac Hatton recommended I go by this booth. Having the JHS rep go over all the options and features was so cool. PLUS, I got to go to the JHS clinic and meet Josh and the whole crew and have them SIGN MINE! As far as this pedal goes, if you have a boost pedal and/or overdrive, sell them now and get this. If have those pedals and the extra cash to get more, get this pedal! The flexibility alone, with 4 separate gain stages, low cut filter, tone control, gain control, volume and boost, it's practically 5 pedals in one unit with just the flick of the switches. I have already purchased a custom boost pedal and a TC Spark Booster and the are now up for sale. The order switch over the boost side allows you to either use it as a clean boost and allowing you to add the overdrive side afterward OR it will allow you to have the overdrive on and then boost the over drive. Again, if your budget or your pedal board is limited and you can only have a few pedals, sell what you have if you have to. Hands down phenomenal.

The Sound I've been looking for

I've tried various pedals from different brands and this nails many tones that I've been looking for. Every switch creates a different sound and it's not a noisy pedal which is a major ++++++++++. I have only tried this pedal with the MXR noise gate pedal to see how it functions. It sounds great by itself hooked up to a Blackstar HT20 amp and 12" Cab. It's one everybody should have if you can afford it. Great sounding pedal. Compact and doesn't take much room on the pedal board.

Good God!

Attention all guitarist, please don't buy this pedal. These aren't the tones your looking for...look elsewhere for your dirt. This box is my precious. My precious...

Smoldering goodness

I own most of the great OD pedals on the market today. I play many different guitars through many different tube amps. This pedal has achieved a unique status in my collection because no matter what guitar/amp combo I play the pedal always shines through and sounds amazing. The JHS Kilt OD has changed how I look at overdrive pedals and even though I initially baulked the price, I'm very happy with it. I honestly can't imagine saying a bad word about it. It even sounds great as a stand alone boost pedal through a clean or OD amp. It's also VERY quiet considering what it does. I would replace this pedal in a heartbeat if it were ever lost.

This is my favorite drive for my grab-and-go pedalboard. It does everything I could want for almost any style of music. It offers a huge range of overdrive along with some of the craziest fuzz I've heard and an independent boost. Every sound it offers is pro-level and totally usable.
