Your One-stop Tone Shop for Electric and Acoustic-electric

With five distinct amp "characters" to choose from, support for acoustic-electric guitars, and access to a wide range of customizable effects, the BOSS Katana Head amplifier represents a new generation of flexible amplifiers for practice and performance. A set of familiar controls allow for fast tone shaping, and you can use the BOSS Tone Studio editor software to further customize your amp settings and effects. There's even a built-in speaker for practicing without having to connect a full speaker cabinet. An adjustable Power Control that allows you to achieve cranked-amp tone at lower volume levels. For a does it all amplifier for electric and acoustic-electric guitar, you definitely need to check out the BOSS Katana Head amp.

Ready for any style of music, even acoustic-electric

The BOSS Katana Head packs five distinct amp voicings. Clean, Crunch and Lead cover the range from chiming clean tones and gritty rhythm tones to solo-worthy high-gain leads. As an added bonus, the Brown setting is derived from the BOSS Waza amplifier - think iconic '80s metal. And finally, the Acoustic mode allows you to plug-in your acoustic-electric guitar too. No matter what style of music you play, or even what kind of guitar you play, there's a world of tone to explore in the BOSS Katana Head amp.

Create custom effects BOSS Tone Studio editor software

The Katana Head supports 55 sweet BOSS effects, and you can load up to 15 of them for instant access. The amp's Booster/Mod, Delay/FX, and Reverb controls give you easy one-knob access to each effects type, with a color-coded button to switch between preset effects. To completely customize your effects and amp settings, connect the Katana Head to your computer via USB and load up the Tone Studio software. Create your own setup, or download setups created by pro guitarists at the BOSS Tone Central website. Best of all, the Katana Head can store two custom amp and effects setups for instant recall, effectively making the Katana Head a versatile two-channel amplifier.

Direct output for silent recording or direct performance

While the Katana Head offers a Power Control for getting cranked-amp tone at a low volume level, you can achieve truly silent recording by connecting the amp's line output to a line input on your recording device, completely bypassing the speaker. It's also an easy way to connect directly to a PA system to help keep the volume down onstage.

Monster in a Box

I have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the past 20-30 years on high end and custom amps, amp heads, and pedals. I currently own many Boss products. They are the best in the industry. They don't break and always work. So, I looked at the Katana Head thinking it's a Boss; however, $ and it states the acoustic channel really for an electric-acoustic or acoustic guitar...not some simulated mess??? So I researched the head on Youtube and other musicians forums. Decided to buy. Heck, for $ I could always use it for practice. Got the head last evening and put it through the paces today. It is a Monster in a Box!!! The acoustic channel is as good as my Bose L1. The other 4 channels and effects - ridiculously outstanding. I have spent $2,000 for some high end heads that do not sound this good. All you need is a 2x12 cab. I use Vintage Celestons and run a Wah, volume, EQ, and a noise suppressor in the loop section of the head. And, as always the service Tom provides at Sweetwater is stellar. Cannot wait for the pedal to come in. Going to gig with it on May 26th.Chuck

Pretty Darn Close

Sweetwater service, second to none. Order arrived in 48 hrs. This amp will not replace my modded 1966 50-watt Fender Bassman head, but I had the luxury of A/B-ing the two heads(through a 2x12,it smooths highs on that Bassman) to get the Katana as close as possible to the basic clean of the Fender. Initially, It took awhile and it was frustrating at first;the EQ pots are touchy and I got lost in amp heaven dialing in other amps sounds but was struggling to get to that hopeful 80% reproduction of the Bassman. I changed settings on my guitar vol/tone, fine tuned a slight amount of gain on the clean channel, and wow. I wonder if all the other new Katana owners spent 2 hours in knob-turning nirvana on just the clean channel like I did! I spent another hour adding/dialing in one pedal from my pedal board at time into the head, just to see if would take the pedals. In front of amp, or through loop, I was happy. I have yet to even make it into the effects/tone editor, just having too much fun playing this as a two-channel amp. SO much amp for the money, I am one grateful customer.

Developed from the Boss Waza R&D efforts, the Katana Head is a mid-priced amp with high-priced performance. Plug it into your favorite cabinet. The sound is very organic with tube amp characteristics and premium voicing's. IMO this is not a modeling amp, but a Boss voiced amp with 5 levels of selectable gain with the Brown or Waza-voice as the highest gain option. The Katana Head offers 4 channels that can be voiced with a combination of any three built-in effects - select a channel and jump to the programmed voice of that channel. Very useful playing through a set with covers that have very different guitar sounds. The amps EQ section is outstanding and includes global gain, volume and master volume controls. I compare the sound of the Katana Head to a premium tube amp. It also has outstanding head-room. Include all of the connection options and this amp can do it all from studio board to serious stage rig.

A Premium Tube Amp without the Tubes

I've been playing guitar for many, many moons and have had all types of tube (Marshall, Fender, Ampeg, VHT, etc.) and solid state (Peavey, Fender, Marshall, Laney, etc.) amps. The BOSS Katana is the first solid state amp that I can truly say sounds and feels exactly like a tube amp. The 5 amp types – acoustic, clean, crunch, lead and brown – let me easily choose the sound I want. The controls in each section (amp, equalizer, effects and tone) are very, very responsive and let me fine tune the sound I’m looking for. The ability to control the wattage is fantastic, from practice at home to small hall to big show loud. It is absolutely amazing. The effects sound great and I absolutely love the reverbs on the Kitana. I can honestly say… I no longer need my tube amps. GREAT job BOSS!!!

Great new amp!

First off, I gave it 5 stars because it delivers everything I wanted in a amp head, and then more. Specifications I like include: multiple watt settings, multiple channels, headphones, simple controls, audio(CD) input. Bonus features I feel was the multiple BOSS effects and the internal speaker, which actually sounds pretty tight and crisp. I know that tube amps are the bomb, but I have been using a Crate amp since 1983 and it stills rocks. Solid state is more robust than tubes in my opinion, so that was another feature I desired. I have been jamming with friends lately and this amp covers a bigger setting. I also liked the idea of building my own amp cabinet, which I did, 2 x 12. I'm digging it. And the price was right! Thank you Sweetwater. Rock on.
