The World's First Fully Wireless Guitar Amplifier

First things first: the BOSS Katana-Air wireless guitar amplifier delivers primal tones from the Katana amplifier series, with five distinct amplifier characters and over 50 BOSS effects. What makes the Katana-Air perfect for any guitarist's home is its complete wireless versatility. It comes with a wireless transmitter for use with any guitar, and the transmitter recharges when you dock it into the Katana-Air. You can stream music to its powerful stereo speaker system wirelessly via Bluetooth, and even power it with eight AA batteries so you're not tethered to wall power. Combining wireless ease of use with excellent BOSS guitar tones, the BOSS Katana-Air is the perfect practice partner.

The world's first fully wireless guitar amplifier

Some guitarists assume wireless technology is really only for the stage, but many guitarists at Sweetwater find it's even more convenient at home — it's simply more enjoyable and comfortable to practice without being tethered. The BOSS Katana-Air features a wireless transmitter you can use with any electric guitar, providing up to 12 hours on a single charge. It even features motion-activated operation, which means it will automatically turn on when you lift your guitar off its stand. To recharge, simply dock the transmitter on the Katana-Air. And while the Katana-Air can be powered via a power adapter, you can also use eight AA batteries for a fully wireless guitar amp solution.

Custom-tuned stereo speaker system

A stereo speaker system allows the Katana-Air to deliver impressive guitar tones despite its small size. Running on battery power, the speakers are driven with 20 watts of power — using a power adapter for wall power increases it to 30 watts. Either is plenty to fill your room with sound, whether you're playing guitar or simply using Katana-Air as a home playback system.

Create custom effects with BOSS Tone Studio editor software

The Katana-Air's Booster/Mod, Delay/FX, and Reverb controls give you easy 1-knob access to each effects type, with a color-coded button to switch between preset effects. To completely customize your effects and amp settings, connect your phone or tablet to the Katana-Air wirelessly and load up the Tone Studio app. Create your own setup, or download setups created by pro guitarists at the BOSS Tone Central website. You can also stream music from your music library directly to the Katana-Air.

Reviews

Perfect for apartment jamming
I used to use a multi effects pedal and headphones to jam, but this is so much more convenient. The wireless works flawlessly so far. You can just leave it in the guitar and pick it up whenever. It turns on automatically. So convenient. The sound is great, though I haven't really been able to crank it due to living conditions. The app is good too. You can save your settings and come back to them regardless of the panel settings. Highly recommend!
Great Practice Amp
The bigger one EX might sound better but this one sounds great for the size. The convenience factor of the wireless is huge. You can get good sounds out of it without having to buy and deal with a bunch of pedals. Also it makes knocking things over with cords and moving around the house or room a lot safer without having to take your guitar off. Some who give bad reviews say they cant figure out the controls or preset sounds available online. Those folks must be real luddites and should probably stick to acoustic guitar because the way this is set up is probably the future of amps with onboard effects.

One rather big downside is that the wireless dongle does not fit in some guitars straight away and no one seems to make short extenders for them. For example Ibanez slim line guitars the jack port cutaway is too narrow. Also if your guitar has a jack that is on the bottom rear of the body it is prone to being hit so in that case I added a six inch extension cable to get the connection point to a safer spot. If you only have one guitar that you also gig with that might look kind of tacky. Either that or let the six inch cable extension just flop around. The sending unit works best on strat style guitars with a wide enough recess to fit it in directly and be protected.
Katana Air: a perfect practice amp.
The Boss Katana Air is a perfect practice amp. It is versatile, light-weight, and portable; it offers multiple amp models and lots of pedal options; it can run for hours on batteries; the wireless transmitter works great and has great battery life; streaming music or backing tracks through BlueTooth is simple; and the whole thing fits nicely into a backpack or small duffle bag for travel, with room left over for headphones and other gear.

Moreover, played through good headphones, it sounds outstanding! Rock, blues, classical, finger-style, folk... this little practice amp is a great practice partner.

What it cannot do, in fairness, is replace a full-sized amp. The two small speakers simply cannot fill the room with sound that offers the same depth and sparkle as a full-sized amp. The sound is very directional; perfectly adequate for quiet practice, but it cannot really stand up to a larger sized amp with 10 or 12" speakers. It models Fender clean tones beautifully, but its speakers can't compete with those in a Fender Twin.

None of this limits its value as a practice amp, where the ability to hear your sounds (privately, through headphones, or in the room at modest levels) and hone your skill is more important than shaking your neighbor's windows. At practice volumes, this little amp excels.

A Great Little Amp
It's my main practice amp now. The battery mode and Bluetooth make it easy to move around, and I can play backing tracks on it as well. The controls and layout on it are the same as on the larger Katana amps, so if you already own one or considering getting one, the similarities are another convenience. Don't be fooled by the photos, this thing is only the size of a loaf of bread, but the sound is as big as you want. Would purchase one again.

AWESOME
This little amp is incredible. Worth every penny. Batteries last longer than seems possible. Get some rechargeable AAs and you're all set.
