Top-notch American Tones

Tone King has been handbuilding their flagship Imperial 20-watt 1 x 12" electric guitar combo amplifier for 20 years. Upon its release, it was one of the best-sounding American-voiced amps out there. Twenty years on, Tone King has improved on the design with the Imperial MK II. The MK II's two channels will sweep you through California cleans to syrupy, tweed-style overdrive. And the amp's tube reverb and tremolo further enhance the amp's vintage leanings. Factor in the onboard Ironman II power attenuator, and the Imperial MK II continues the model's rich legacy of top-notch tones.

A proven legacy

Tone King established their name and sound with the release of the first Imperial combo amp. Today, the Imperial MK II takes the best parts of that popular amplifier and adds a few player-friendly features that make it an even better powerhouse. The Imperial MK II boasts a cleaner-voiced Rhythm channel with a very usable warm breakup at higher volume settings. The Lead channel delivers a throatier tone that is modified by the amp's clever Mid-Bite control. If you love the tone of a vintage US amp but want a wider palette of tone, get your hands on a Tone King Imperial MK II.

Onboard Ironman II attenuator

Tone King installed their Ironman II power attenuator into the Imperial MK II for wide-ranging dynamic control. The Ironman II is engineered to bring your screaming tube tones to a whisper or any volume in between. Its reactive load technology ensures total transparency throughout the attenuator's range. That way, when you bring your volume down, your Tone King Imperial MK II still sings and responds with the exact same tone and feel as it would wide open.

Tube-driven effects

To further nail the vintage vibe of the Imperial MK II, Tone King outfitted these 20-watt combos with tube-driven reverb and tremolo. The spring reverb is controlled via a single, intuitive knob on the amp's faceplate that mixes in more or less of the effect along with your original signal. The bias-modulated tremolo circuit — a Sweetwater favorite — adds the pulsating movement to your tone that has found its way onto countless hit recordings in rock, country, blues, and beyond.

Tone King Imperial MK II Combo Tube Amp Features:

  • Combo tube amp with boutique-style American tones
  • 2-channel design offers Cali-style cleans and grinding tweed-style tone
  • Onboard power attenuator provides cranked tone at quiet volume
  • Custom-voiced Eminence Tone King 33 12" speaker
  • Bias modulation tremolo circuit delivers vintage-style pulse
  • Tube-driven spring reverb with wide-ranging control

Pure tune bliss
I have been playing through a Fender 65 deluxe reverb reissue. I like the tone of the Fender, however, if you get the volume past 3 it starts to break up and gets muddy sounding. I just couldn't get any clean volume. The tone king is wonderful. Loads of clean volumeand the lead channel is sweet.tje Tone King Imperial mkII truly is a deluxe reverb on steroids. Very happy with my purchase, and as always, Sweetwater is just the best to deal with.

It's like having a vintage tweed and a vintage Deluxe reverb plus a great attenuator, all wrapped up in the one amp. I love this Amp and it takes pedals great too. Any and all pedals so far every pedal I've tried sounded absolutely amazing through this amp.

David, my fantastic sales engineer and consultant pointed me towards this amp when I asked his opinion about tube amps. I waited a year until bonus season and my wife purchased it for me. The clean tone has been amazing and simple to produce and I'm still putting it through the paces. David has been a great resource and he follows up regularly to ensure the products are working as expected. Sweetwater is a great resource with experts like David, and make deliveries and returns if required simple.

Amazing amplifier!
I've now had some time to learn how to use the Tone King Imperial MK II that I recently purchased. I have a home studio and, at this time, do not gig in public much. I play acoustic and electric guitar, along with mandolin and piano, while dabbling with bouzouki, banjo, and ukulele. This amp is really worth the expense. I find having 2 channels very useful, along with the foot switch for changing channels on the fly from rhythm to lead and back. The built in attenuator has been instrumental, (no pun intended), in capturing the sound I'm looking for while playing and recording in a small space. I could, of course, blow the whole house out if I wanted to, (which I don't), with this amp. I find the amp extremely versatile and the sound quality and tone to be exceptional. It does include reverb and tremolo, with the tremolo off/on controllable with the foot switch. All in all, I have no regrets about acquiring this amp. I want to extend a special thanks to my Sales Engineer, Kenny Plisco, who has been wonderful to work with, validating my conclusions when appropriate in regard to comparing choices before I purchase any item, providing additional education and resources to help with decision-making, sharing his pertinent experiences with me, and helping me to determine what best suits my needs and desires. He's the best!

It don’t get no better
It don't get any better then this. It like having a vintage Fender deluxe reverb and a vintage tweed amp in one Amp with the edition of a top tier top quality attenuator built in.

After switching from a Vox-style combo, I started recording and gigging with a Tone King Imperial Mk II. I play many styles of music, so I absolutely love how flexible this amp is. Its combination of high headroom, extensive sound-shaping controls, and onboard effects make it easy for me to dial in everything from clear jazz rhythms to aggressive and punchy American lead tones. Add in a variable attenuator, and I can get the guitar sound I need at the right volume for any venue or recording setup.
