Hofner Ignition Violin Electric Bass Guitar at a Glance:
  • From the company that brought you the original
  • Takes you back to those great vintage sounds

From the company that brought you the original

Hofner wrote the book on the short scale hollowbody style of electric bass guitar. In the hands of Sir Paul McCartney, they helped change the world with this design. If you close your eyes and remember all of those classic bass lines filling out and propelling the rock 'n' roll soundtrack, this is that sound. And no one knows that sound sound better than Hofner. There's been a lot of imitators, but only one true original. Don't play an imitation of the sound you're after. Play the real deal, and get it from Sweetwater.

Takes you back to those great vintage sounds

This bass is not about cutting through, it's about that thump, that pulse, and that ever-present low end push that really can only be achieved with this style of bass guitar. The sound of the short scale, hollowbody Hofner Ignition Violin electric bass guitar brings you back to the golden days of rock and roll, but will also help you fit in beautifully within today's folk, indie, jazz, and americana scenes, and so much more. That's why so many bassists have found their sound using a Hofner Violin bass. And hey, if they're good enough for Paul, they're good enough for us.

Fit, finish, electronics, and playability are all top notch

One thing that's universally praised about these Hofner basses is that the fit and finish are just about flawless. Not only that, but the electronics package are as good as you could ask for. Not necessarily always the case with vintage instruments. And not bad for a bass that costs about much as you would pay for a vintage equivelant's tuning key. You'll get a great playing, great feeling bass with all the vibe of yesterday, but with all the reliability of today.

Hofner Ignition Violin Electric Bass Guitar Features:
  • Short scale hollowbody bass from a company that helped change the world
  • This is the bass every rock fan grew up on
  • Hear and feel the warm round tone from the fully hollowbody
  • The shorter scale length delivers classic thump
  • Electronics offer on/off switches and a solo/rhythm switch
  • Hofner "staple" pickups give the authentic Hofner sound
  • All the vintage goodness, for a very non-vintage price
The Ignition Violin Bass nails one of rock's ultimate bass tones

Great value for the money

I am not a Bass player nor am I in a band. I simply enjoy playing guitar around the house, to a cd etc. I always thought about getting a Beatle style bass and finally caved in and looked at them. I found these Hoofers ranges from the low $300's to several thousand. Since I don't intend on playing professionally I thought the low end would be better suited to my needs and I was correct. The ignition feels and sounds great, the quality seems to be there in the build and the sound very nice. Im sure there would be different woods, pickups etc in a bass costing over $2000 but for a beginner or even someone who is professional and wants that look its perfect. I do not think you will be disappointed.

Outstanding instrument

I always wanted this bass because I am a Beatle fan and enjoy plunking around on the guitar. I looked at the entire line of Hofner Bases and figured since Im not a professional, Im not going on stage or in a studio why should I spend over a thousand dollars. So I both the Ignition series and boy am I suprised. Its beautiful , looks well built and has a nice warm sound. I couldn't be happier with the staff at Sweetwater as well. They called to confirm my order and it arrived in under 2 days!

I own a few electric bass's. An Amarican standard jazz bass, a Rickenbacker 4001, a Gibson EB-3 etc... well, you get the idea. This Ignition bass sounds fantastic! It weighs almost nothing and is easy on the eyes as well. The only thing I was disappointed with was (and it was no big deal) they put the absolute cheapest set of round wound strings on the thing. I replaced them with a set of short scale flat wound strings before I even plugged it in to one of my amps.. Of course, I didn't pay very much for it either. My intent in buying this is to teach one of my grandsons how to play and give it to him. I never expected it to be such a nice sounding bass. I'll need to replace the tuners and the nut (It's looks like it's plastic) with a bone nut. If your looking for an inexpensive excellent sounding bass, you can't go wrong with one of these.

Absolutely great guitar. Don't know why I've waited so long to get it. Was in tune straight out of the box so I launched into Day Tripper immediately. My wife had to make me stop playing long enough to put away the packaging. Haven't put it down since. And Bart Arnum is the best salesperson I've ever worked with. He knows how to take care of the customer.

Hofner Ignition Violin Bass

I played a Hofner Bass almost 50 years ago in some garage bands in the 60's. Marriage, children, careers, etc. somehow get in the way of stuff like music. My son started a band around 7 years ago and I went out and bought a bass to play in it. It was not a Hofner, close but not the real thing. I had been looking at the Hofners for some time and found the one that I have, which is the Ignition series. I like the way that Sweetwater lists its stock by taking many pictures and also weighing the guitars. The one that I purchased only weighs 4 lbs 10 oz. That is the reason that I picked this particular one. It plays great, stays in tune all night and looks great too. An added bonus was the fact that I got it from Sweetwater. They are the best. I have purchased guitars from many other music stores and Sweetwater is second to none. They even sent me the pictures that they had taken to display online. Excellent customer service. I've already done 4 gigs with the Hofner and I couldn't be happier. Thank you Sweetwater.
