Gibson Les Paul Standard 2017 HP Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • Plek'd for precision playability
  • Compound-radius fretboard
  • Slim neck profile with wider Soloist neck width
  • Dip switches give you access to over 100 tonal options
Plek'd for precision playability

This Gibson Les Paul Standard 2017 HP feels fast and precise, thanks in large part to Plek processing. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you're likely to own. Each note rings loud and clear, and the fret edges feel smooth as silk.

Compound-radius fretboard

The Les Paul Standard features a 10"-16" compound-radius fretboard for ultimate playability. The fingerboard is rounder near the nut for easy chord-grabbing and rhythm playing. As your playing heats up and moves up the fretboard, the radius flattens out for easier runs and big, big string bends. With a neck that plays this slick, you'll be up at the highest frets before you know it.

Slim neck profile with wider Soloist neck width

The Gibson Les Paul Standard 2017 HP sports a fast, wide neck with a SlimTaper profile, perfect for modern players who push the speed limit. The wider Soloist neck width gives you more room for big bends and tapping than the traditional LP neck width. And the asymmetrical SlimTaper profile gives you the speed of a thin neck with the chording stability of a rounder neck. It's a great balance for players who love Les Paul tone but prefer a faster, thinner neck.

Dip switches give you access to over 100 tonal options

The Gibson HPs are some of the most sonically versatile electric guitars Gibson has ever offered. The tone and volume controls on the Les Paul Standard 2017 HP are a push-pull design, and five internal dip switches determine how these controls work. By setting these dip switches to your preference, you can access coil splits, coil taps, and a highpass filter for each pickup, determine if you want the pickups to be in or out of phase, and even engage a transient suppression circuit for avoiding unwanted output peaks when recording direct.

Gibson Les Paul Standard 2017 HP Electric Guitar Features:
  • Classic Les Paul style with maple top and modern appointments
  • Modern weight-relieved mahogany body reduces weight while maintaining sustain
  • Compound-radius fretboard makes it easier to switch between rhythm and lead roles
  • Burstbucker Rhythm Pro and Lead Pro+ humbuckers and revolutionary wiring deliver a universe of tonal options
  • Dual push-pull volume controls switch pickups between single-coil and humbucking operation
  • Push-pull neck tone control reverses polarity of the neck pickup's output
  • Sturdier, noiseless toggle switch
  • Tune up fast and precise with G Force automated tuning
  • Fast-access heel improves access to upper frets
  • Innovative dip switches give you over 100 options for customizing your sound
  • Adjustable titanium zero-fret nut allows you to fine-tune your action

Absolutely a fine quality guitar from Gibson

Let me start this by saying: WOW!!! AN amazingly beautiful guitar in so many ways. I've owned 20-24 Gibson Les Pauls in the past 5 years: Custom's, Standard's and Classic's. I know what a top quality guitar is. Gibson's quality control has been spotty for many, many years, but I've noticed in the past couple of years that they seem to be turning it around. The blueberry flame top is just stunning, the hardware is all top notch, and although I was dubious about the G-Force tuner, so far I like it! The selector switch feels far more durable than past models that I've owned, and of course the coil tapping, splitting, and bypass are all welcome cherries on the top of the sundae. Having the knobs and truss rod cover in sterling silver adds some flavor as well. However, I would have had the back plates done in sterling to complete the awesomeness. The easily removable pick guard (no screw holes or bracket. It simply snaps tightly into place.) is a fantastic idea so there are no unsightly screw holes for those that don't want to use it. REAL MOP inlays look amazing and the titanium nut is, IMO, far superior than bone. The frets are metal, so it makes sense to me that the nut be a metal of some sort as well. The aluminum case is absolutely top shelf, and it came with a whole bunch of case candy, including an actual photo of my guitar. The guitar itself sounds great, and the relieved heel joint, rather than that massive hunk of wood that has made is so hard to get high up on the neck, is finally gone, plus the shape of the neck feels great. IMO, I believe that over time, this guitar will stand head to head with the other great Gibson LP's: the '59, the '68 and the "Black Beauty" (1957 I think). I give this guitar a solid 9.8 out of 10 (on my scale). Again, had the back plates been sterling as well, it would've gotten a 10. Buy it. You won't be disappointed!

AMAZING

Before I review this. I want to thank Aaron from Sweet Water for helping me buy this. I've never had a better experience buying a guitar. I received this guitar on October 20th when I was supposed to get it mid November! I've never bought a new Gibson Les Paul in my life till I saw this color! This is the most amazing color I've ever seen. The blueberry burst is incredible. There isn't too much purple to make it look like a wild tie dyed color, but enough to make it stand out amazingly! The neck profile is perfect for my taste. Especially the cut out at the bottom of the neck. I can play any note near the rhythm pickup without any hiccups. I just have to get used to the feeling of the neck as I'm accustomed to fender stratocaster necks. The HP model is amazing. The push pull pots are more versatile then I expected. I can pull any sound imaginable. Using the split coil sound i can even pull a very close strat sound from this. But the full on hum buckers are incredible. You have to have a tube amp paired with this. If you're into classic rock, any orange tube amp, marshall plexi or even JVM will work flawlessly. I plan on getting a Orange Rockerverb soon as I only have a fender amp. whichever amp, you can never go wrong with em! Now I had some issues with the g force running system at first. But I found that if you strum the strings very lightly it tunes it perfectly. I play half step (Eb Ab Db Gb Bb eb) and occasionally dadgad in half step. Once I figured out how to add my custom tunings, I'm more then happy with it! It take 10 seconds to go between normal to dadgad and vice versa. I love the neck profile. Its perfect for my style of playing. I don't think I'll ever buy another brand. You have to get one of these!
