Vintage-sounding EQ for Your 500 Series Rack

With the Daking EQ500 500 Series parametric equalizer in your 500 Series rack, it's easy to add a heavy dose of vibe to any track while also cleaning up your sound. The EQ500 is based on Daking's acclaimed Mic Pre/EQ, with two inductor-based peaking mid-bands for incredibly sweet and rich sound. It's also a very musical sound, because the switchable frequencies on each band were chosen for their musicality and all-around usefulness. So whether you're sculpting your snare sound or giving some extra life to vocals, the Daking EQ500 parametric equalizer sounds great doing it.

Daking EQ500 500 Series 4-band Parametric Equalizer at a Glance:
  • Based on the original "A Range" circuit design
  • A flexible EQ with per-band bypass
  • The Daking story
Based on the original "A Range" circuit design

With Class A amplifiers, discrete transistor circuitry, and ThatCorp balanced inputs and outputs, the EQ500 gives you the sound of a vintage console's EQ section. Per-channel bypass maintains your signal's integrity if you don't need to use all four bands.

A flexible EQ with per-band bypass

With five selectable frequencies per band, you may think the EQ500 is less flexible than some other EQs - not so. Take a listen, and you'll find the frequencies Daking chose are some of the most musical. Scoop mud out at 250Hz while adding some presence at 5kHz. Or boost some bass around 125Hz while lowering everything below 80Hz and adding some clarity around 10kHz. And each band has an "out" setting to completely remove that band from the signal path, which Daking feels is a better-sounding, more accurate solution than a center-detent pot at the unity position.

The Daking story

Having broken into the music industry as the drummer for '60s psychedelic band the Blues Magoos, Geoff Daking went on to truly make his mark designing and building boutique-quality studio gear. His company's latest offerings not only look classic, sound great, and perform solidly - you'll be knocked out by their decidedly non-boutique prices. Daking puts a premium on putting quality components at the heart of his gear, from circuits to transformers to amplifiers, while implementing modern techniques to ensure reliable, consistent performance.
