An Awesome Upgrade for Any DJ Deck!

There are many excellent DJ controllers and control surfaces out there that take advantage of Serato Scratch's advanced cue and looping functions. On the other hand, there are many more that don't. You don't need a new deck in order to get the most out of Scratch anymore - all you need is a Novation Dicer! The result of a collaboration with Serato and DJ TechTools' Ean Golden (a DJ whose practical approach to DJing and using computer technology has been an inspiration to many of today's hottest up-and-coming DJs), the Dicer extends straightforward usefulness and software integration into Serato Scratch.

The Dicer lets you instantly set cue points, which you can use for hot cues, loops, rolls, and more. Each mode lights the Dicer's buttons up a different color, so you get the instant feedback you need - not to mention more cool lights on your deck. And with the Dicer's "learn" function, you're not restricted to preset functions or even to using Serato Scratch. So, you can use the Dicer to browse your crate, load tracks, trigger effects, and more - in short, anything that will make your show cooler than before.

The Dicer hardware comes in a pair of palm-sized cue-point/looping controllers that fit perfectly on the corner of your turntables - right where you need them! In fact, if you use Technics SL 1200s or similar decks, you can mount the Dicer hardware right onto the deck. Otherwise, you can use Novation's DJ putty to stick them just about anywhere. If you want options, you'll get them with the Dicer DJ controller by Novation!

Novation Dicer DJ Controller Features at a Glance:
  • Backlit, multicolor, soft-touch "dice" buttons provide immediate LED feedback from Serato Scratch Live software
  • Locks straight onto Technics SL 1200/10s and similar decks
  • Attaches to CDJs, mixers, and laptops
  • Reusable DJ putty allows you to stick the Dicer cleanly and directly onto your CDJs, mixer, or laptop

  • Fully MIDI assignable to work with all major DJ software

The Novation Dicer are the essential addition to the dj's setup. The setup is automatic. You just plug in and it's ready. I enjoy the loop ability and the midi capability it has, increases a dj skills from a basic dj to a SUPER DJ!

Amazing. Just... amazing.

FIRST: Each package comes with TWO units (1 for each deck)! I have a Rane SL3 and do not have one of the Rane mixers. Even if I did have one I would still buy this. That's how legit they are. 1. They work RIGHT out of the box with Serato. No mapping or fussing. 2. 3 modes as follows: Mode 1: Add Cuepoint, Cue Cuepoint, Delete Cuepoint. Mode 2: Beat Repeat (1,1/2,1/4,1/8,1/6) You can custom set this in Serato as well. Mode 3: Loop (16 bars, 8 bars, 4 bars, 2 bars, 1 bar). If all this isn't enough for you, they actually have made it so you can assign 10 user adjustable commands onto it. 3. It's so easy to use that the user guide is 1 page and explains everything in one table. PRO TIP: I chose to stick these (with the included reusable DJ putty) onto my mixer. Why? When I stuck them onto my turntables (like I saw in videos) I noticed the needle would skip sometimes when I would hit them hard. In all fairness I'm using very cheap turntables. Bottom Line: You can't go wrong with these. Buy them now!

Works pretty well with Traktor. However takes a while to get the mapping setup how one would like it

Second Unit Fix

For anyone having issues with the second unit acting up. This worked for me, after going through a few pair. If you unplug your dicers at the end of a gig in the wrong order the second units can stop working. There is some kind of bug which no longer allows the second unit to daisy chain off the first units power. Fix: Use an Android power plug-in to give the second unit power. You will have to take it with you to gigs, but at least you can use your dicers and no longer have to worry if they won't work at a gig....and maybe like me you will have a few pairs back in the mix.

Sweetwater Advice

Scott DeMarko

The Novation Dicer is the must-have mobile DJ/producer's dream "mini controller." With its design set perfectly for Serato Scratch live DJ's, and a custom fit for Technics turntables, it controls loop functionality, hot cues, and loop roll for Serato. Plus it can be re-mapped for virtually any MIDI function within Serato. Remove the Technics mounting adapter, and the Dicer can fit cleanly on a table, laptop, or even a CDJ. I've personally tested the Dicer with a variety of other programs. It works perfectly as a loop controller for Torq and Traktor, as well as a functional controller for Ableton Live. If your DAW or other application allows MIDI devices, the Dicer might just be the perfect small footprint controller for you. For DJs, the Dicer is the ideal controller for adding that extra bit of performance to set you apart from the competition.
