Amazing!

Just uploaded up the syses files from original Yamaha dx to Arturia and I'm really impressed with the sound quality.

Real enough to fool anyone.

These are the sounds! The ones that helped create a world of new music. Great musical sounds! Not just distorted farts. Of course, you can have those too. FM synthesis issued in a new world of musical sounds that had never been heard before. And not everyone could afford a Synclavier from New England Digital. So Yamaha did its thing and the most used synth keyboard of the eighties was created. The DX7.
I couldn't even afford one of those so I used what I had and lusted long after they went out of fashion. Finally I have a DX7 that I could afford. And it was love at first listen. If a sound was a great sound last year, or last decade or even last century why is it not a great sound now? The answer is: it is still a great sound. And I've got it!!
After digging into this puppy, I find that probably a couple of trillion undiscovered or unused sounds available, just waiting for a good spot to be put to use.
Thanks, Arturia. I may have to rebuy some of your things that I sold years ago that I loved. Keep it up.

Awesome

I recently bought the V collection and this is my favorite synth so far, hands down. I'll be bold and say this is even better than the real thing. What I can program in 20 minutes with the VST would probably take me the better part of a day on the real hardware. Arturia did a great job with the interface and the sounds are awesome.

Great Competitor in FM Synthesis

First, a little about me. I have worked on dubstep/industrial sounds with FM8 and Ableton Live for the better part of a year, so take that into consideration.

What the DX7 does different than FM8 that is the most obvious is workflow. There are 30 something algorithms to choose from. With FM8, you could make up your own algorithms. This may seem like a hindrance, but it actually streamlines your workflow so you can just cycle through the algorithms instead of manually making routing connections like in FM8.

The GUI is resizable and is gorgeous, making it much less boring to work with than FM8. The Envelope editing is much easier than FM8 as well, and each envelope and Operator is color coded.

The sound engine sounds every bit as good as FM8, subjectively. I find myself getting much different sounds than FM8, some even more complex. I'm not sure if it's the workflow or the engine itself, but I always come up with something way different in DX7 vs FM8.

Finally, one definite improvement over FM8 is that you can assign controls over your ADSR envelopes to MIDI, or assign it to a Macro in Live. This gives you even more control over rhythmic modulations that are key to modern EDM.

The only cons are that Arturia requires a dongle, and the DX7 can be a CPU hog. A typical patch takes anywhere from 15-20% on my PC.

It's crazy that this technology exists now, and its an emulation of what has been around since 1984. What is old is new again.Great job, Arturia.

Good "Basic" Synth Tones

I've had this emulation of the Yamaha DX7 for few weeks and it's "Decent!", I'm a little disappointed the Sounds are Just "OK" nothing special, there are Synth Software like Dexed (Free Software) That is Just-As-Good! Though the GUI of Dexed isn't as Fancy as Arturia who appears to focus on looks-alone, tons of options that do little!

Overall Arturia DX7 has been a huge Disappointment that after a few weeks "Trying to like it" I've Uninstalled it as a Loss.
It's been years since I've done a "Negative-Review" like this, best to look elsewhere for serious professional level performance & tone!

"Sweetwater" on the other hand, "Is Professional and helpful"..........
