Straightforward construction
The Firebird Studio shares the same body contours as the legendary vintage instruments in the same line. But the Studio separates itself from the pack with a no-nonsense look and feel that puts raw power above aesthetic appointments. The slab mahogany body does away with the raised neck-through center. And dual P-90 pickups replace the common Firebird mini humbuckers. Finally, you'll notice the lack of binding and trapezoid inlay. This mean stripped-down machine has remained quite popular here at Sweetwater — and with good reason!
P-90 single-coils onboard
The Gibson Firebird Studio is fitted with two P-90 pickups. As Gibson's first successful single-coil pickup, the P-90 can be heard on countless classic recordings. With its biting treble and high output, the P-90 cleans up nicely when the volume pot is rolled back. And when you hit your amp hard, the P-90 really wails. It's an amazingly versatile pickup (more so, arguably, than most humbuckers).
Traditional tonewoods and feel
Aesthetic differences aside, the Firebird Studio still sings with the midrange-heavy clarity that has helped make original Firebird designs so popular. The mahogany body and mahogany neck with SlimTaper profile will feel familiar in your hands. And the torrefied granadillo fingerboard adds even more warmth and richness to the guitar's tone. This Firebird features a high-quality set of Grover mini tuning machine heads instead of the banjo-style tuners of yesterday.
