killer interface/ preamps for $$$

i was recommended by someone from gear slutz to try this for solid 2 channel interface. i was debating between id22, crimson and rme ucx but didnt need that many preamps, plus rme costs more. i took a chance on SPL, im just blown away from the quality, killer preamps from the gainstation at this price point, made in germany, im really impressed by the SPL as a company, great customer service.

follow up

Here is my follow up fot the SPL Crimson. after my Review i was also facing constant crackles and Audio Problems like drop Outs and more in Windows (like youtube etc.) and also had Problems in cubase. After reading all over the net i bought myself an usb 3.0 pci express Card, installed it and plugged the crimson in that. since then my Driver is stable so far and works pretty flawless and i am very happy with the device. i cannot comment on the latency issues as i have not tested the Driver with very large Projects yet. but im pretty happy with the Interface now. BUT i have to mention that SPL didnt seem to think that it was necessary to reply to any of my mails regarding the Driver Problem. so SPL customer Service gets no Points and i will take away a star because of that and the Problems i had in the beginning. half a star im taking off because on my unit the Stereo Image is shifted to the left on both Monitors and Headphones when in pretty low volumes. on Monitors you can work against that pretty well by pressing the DIM button that dims the Output about 10dbs but on headphones you can not. and sometimes i like listening very low on headphones. But Overall soundquality and preamp quality are way above the pricepoint of the unit. sorry for the wrong use of capital letters here but my pc is Auto correcting These. and i dont feel like editing them all right now. :)

latency problem

great sound but there is a latency problem with pro tools

Do yourself a favor, don't buy this interface.

Soundwise, this interface is pretty amazing. The preamps are great and it offers a lot of conectivity, at least all the options I needed for my home studio, where I record and produce music for the advertisement world. The problem is that it has terrible drivers and SPL, after 2 years of its release, has not been able to solve these issues. The latency is terrilble while recording and when working on large sessions, the stability becomes a nightmare, even with a buffer size of 4096. It amazes me that with my old M-Audio Profire 610 I have a better workflow, taking in consideration that the unit cost me less than half the amount that the Crimson did. I'm definitely sending it back.
