British VCA Master Bus Compressor
Overloud's Comp G isn't just another master bus compressor. Sure, it injects your mixes with the depth and punch you'd expect from a classic British VCA compressor. But this plug-in goes beyond the original hardware with advanced features like mid-side processing, parallel compression, and a sidechain EQ. Benefit from continuous ratio adjustment between 2:1 and 10:1. Take notes anywhere on the plug-in panel with Scribbles. Tweak without fear, thanks to multilevel undo/redo. Beyond that, you can make instant A/B comparisons and calibrate your meters at four different sensibilities. Complete with modest CPU usage, Comp G is the perfect tool for gluing your mixes together.

Add punch without swallowing your transients
Slamming your mix into a compressor is a great way to put meat on its bones, but it can also destroy your transients. The result is dull, squashed, and flat. One of our favorite studio tricks here at Sweetwater is to use parallel compression. Parallel compression combines a clean, unprocessed signal with a highly compressed signal. The compressed signal pumps up your mix's low-volume sections, while the uncompressed signal preserves your transients. This technique usually requires complex routing, but thanks to Comp G's Parallel control, you can achieve it with a simple twist of a knob. Increase your mix's impact, while leaving your transients intact — Comp G makes it easy!

Achieve a full, wide-sounding mix with mid-side processing
Mid-side processing has long been a secret weapon of pro studio engineers. This works by decoding your stereo mix into two components. Mid refers to the audio information in both the left and right channels, while Side references the information that differs between the left and right channels. Comp G allows you to compress these two elements separately, using different settings for each. This supplies you with complete control over your mix's dynamics. For example, you can squeeze your room mics' stereo image to attain an in-your-face drum sound. Or apply less compression to the side channel than the mid channel for a wider mix.
Eliminate unwanted pumping with the sidechain EQ
A common irritant that arises during mix bus compression is pumping. This occurs when the rhythmic low-frequency elements of your mix (i.e. the kick drum) trigger the compressor, which then affects the rest of your mix. In the old days, engineers solved this issue by sidechaining an EQ to the compressor. They'd then use the EQ to adjust how the compressor reacted to the low frequencies. Sound complicated? Well, not if you use Comp G. Its Sidechain/HPF control allows you to do this with a single control. All you have to do is set the knob somewhere around 200Hz, and the unwanted pumping artifacts will magically disappear.
