From Erica Synth’s high-end Black series of Eurorack modules, the Black Code Source is a unique and idiosyncratic true stereo digital noise and dual random CV generator. Black Code Source presents complicated calculations of polynomials of various configurations, similar to the technology used for data scrambling and in vintage digital drum machines and arcade game music. Essentially, the Black Code Source behaves like a sample & hold generator that produces long chains of pseudo-random signals that rewind and repeat. This 10HP module offers four chunky control knobs: RATE, X, Y, and S. RATE sets the sample rate clock; at high values, the module outputs digital noise; and, at low values, it outputs two control voltages for modulating parameters, such as pitch, pulse width, and filter cutoff, on external modules. The X and Y knobs allow you to choose from over 200 polynomial combinations, 16 on the Y-axis and 16 on the X-axis. When combined with the S knob, which controls the starting point of the selected sequence, the Black Code Source offers over 4,000 different dual CV sequences for each of the three modes accessible with the MODE toggle switch. All four parameters are controllable via CV, with onboard CV attenuation for X, Y, and S. Plus, the Black Code Source includes a clock input and an S TRIGG input, which accepts a range of signals from full band audio to single pulses, allowing you to reset the code sequence or for processing external audio.
