Deploy Authentic Diode-bridge Dynamics
Developed in cooperation with Blackbird Studio, the KIT Plugins BB N54 offers a spot-on emulation of the 2254's diode-bridge circuit, equipping you with the unique sonic character of one of the most sought-after compressor/limiter units in the studio's famed vintage gear collection. The BB N54 faithfully captures the original hardware's smooth, musical gain reduction and ear-grabbing harmonic saturation, enabling you to infuse your tracks with British-flavored warmth and transformer-fueled heft. Independent compressor and limiter sections give the BB N54 amazing sonic latitude; meanwhile, a flexible cluster of parameters allows you to dial in everything from transparent peak taming to full-on brickwall signal squashing. You also get a substantial assemblage of modern, software-only features, such as plug-in instance linking, mid-side processing, enhanced A/B comparison, and intuitive metering. The original 2254 is a revered classic, and Blackbird Studio's unit is one of the world's most remarkable specimens. And now, thanks to the KIT Plugins BB N54, you can harness this mythical mojo right from your DAW.

Classic British-fueled flavor
Built in 1968 by a revered British console company, the original 2254 housed a diode-bridge design, yielding smooth compression and limiting, while transformer-coupled Class A circuitry imparted thick nonlinear harmonic saturation to every signal it touched. Working alongside Blackbird Studio, KIT Plugins meticulously modeled a perfect vintage specimen of one of these storied compressor/limiter hardware units, replicating every quirk of its behavior and capturing every nuance of its sonic character. Whether you're reining in errant peaks, gluing together a full mix, or crushing a signal within an inch of its life, the KIT Plugins BB N54 will behave and sound like a well-maintained vintage piece of hardware.
Flexible dual-stage dynamic control
We've used 2254 hardware for decades here at Sweetwater, and one of our favorite features is its dedicated compressor and limiter sections, which can be deployed either independently or in series. The KIT Plugins BB N54 offers the same dual-stage design as its real-world predecessor, providing you with the same unmatched level of flexibility. We'll often use the compressor to lend a subtle, glue-like quality to program material, while the limiter is ideal for high-precision peak-eating. Engaging both sections simultaneously gives you an incredible level of dynamics control while adding incredible depth, dimension, and transformer-tinged weight to your signal — especially if you crank the input.
Loaded with classic and modern features
The BB N54 brandishes the same range of compression ratios and threshold settings as its hardware counterpart, facilitating everything from gentle, transparent leveling to extreme dynamics devastation and everything in between. The plug-in offers digital-accurate ratio selection; that said, you can engage Vintage mode if you want to replicate the original hardware's less-precise (but eminently musical) ratios. The BB N54 models the hardware's compressor and limiter recovery behaviors to a T, enabling you to adapt it to any sound source or program material seamlessly and musically. You also get an exclusive 1/8 compressor recovery mode for added sonic versatility. On top of that, you get a slew of software-only features, including a scalable user interface, plug-in instance linking, mid-side capabilities, easy A/B comparison, and intuitive metering.
