Iconic Gibson 4-string
The Gibson Thunderbird Bass is an icon and weapon of low end sonic destruction. You get high output and truckloads of bottom end from two ceramic magnet humbuckers and unending sustain courtesy of a 14-degree headstock angle, neck-through construction, and 3-point bridge. Since its genesis in the 1960s, the Thunderbird Bass has been a legend of hard rock low end. Today, the Thunderbird bass growl and hot-rod looks can be yours, with this Gibson Thunderbird 4-string electric bass guitar.

Neck-through-body construction
The Gibson Thunderbird's neck/body centerpiece are constructed from solid mahogany — as are the two wings glued to each side to form the Thunderbird's distinct silhouette. The mahogany gives the bass its warm and punchy tone that makes it great for rock 'n' roll. Gluing the pieces together ensures maximum wood-to-wood contact, allowing the neck and body to function as a single unit. Neck-through-body construction ensures improved tone and sustain, as well as a perfect neck alignment.
Angled headstock
The Gibson Thunderbird's headstock is carved out of the same piece of mahogany as the neck. It's set to a 14-degree angle (instead of the traditional 17 degrees), to accommodate the headstock's distinctive shape and to keep proper pressure on the strings. This headstock arrangement ensures straight string pull, which — when combined with the increased string pressure — means there's no loss of string vibration between the Tektoid nut and the tuners. The result? Better sustain.
Nitrocellulose finish
The Gibson Thunderbird wears a gorgeous nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes — standard back in the '60s and '70s — are significantly thinner than today's polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to breathe. Nitro finishes not only look vintage-y wonderful, but they also enhance the instrument's tonal qualities.
